I had to work, so I missed all but the last few minutes of the game. I'm guessing the offense was stagnant for the most part?

Tale of 2 half's for the offense. 1st had Lindquist playing well. 2nd he started throwing to phantom receivers and we barely survived it.

D played solid, but the run D was put to the test by Hawaii's 240 pound RB.

Listen, going down there and playing is very hard, I don't care they were 1-11 last season,
it always seems they step up and play big, screw Vegas and the 17 point spread...

This is Myles team to lose, I hope he comes out next week and throws the crap out of the ball

It is hard playing there. Sometimes they get roflstomped but @Hawaii is known for being a tough road trip.

We had a lot of questions on O going in, so as Husky fans we shouldnt be too shocked at the result. Our antagonists will laugh but so what. Most big favorites that played an FBS school struggled this week and some even lost.

At the end of the game the Huskies did what they had to do. Things they didn't do most of the game. The O line opened gaping holes for the backs and they hit them hard, we got the first downs when needed on that final drive. To me that and the penalties/turnover facts are very promising going forward.

I'm probably going to have to eat some crow on my 11 win prediction, but thats ok. Lets just improve every week and develop our skill positions and make it past EWU with a win. Then we'll tackle the next game.

I'll start with the first bold line: This isn't the Huskies of old, old Huskies would have found a way to lose that game, these kids needed better coaching from that happening, and they got it now, it doesn't matter the final score, what does matter is they now know they can go into another city and actually win a game that does matter.

Second, why in the hell did they not run Washington more? He's the bigger back with more experience, give him the damn rock and let him run. I honestly feel with Miles back next week this offense is gonna be a whole lot better in the passing game...

Hard to say. I think I read somewhere that coach Pete said he's going to be trying a lot of people out in that game.

If we wanted more experience Callier was the way to go, and he averaged over 5 yards a carry. But he only had 3.

I think this team will be fine, I'm not gonna over think last night, this team is gonna need some tweaking, and of course recruiting his kind of players...

For teams that aren't trainwrecks and especially breaking in new QBs and new schemes, you will generally see a dramatic level of improvement from game 1 to game 2. We struggle again next week, then it's going to raise legit questions.

We have 3 very winnable OOC games left that sets up really well to have things settled down nice for PAC play.

Wasn't pretty second half of football, but reminds us we got plenty of work to do.

Wasn't to pretty for UCLA this week either and they're returning a Heisman candidate at QB. I'd say their performance was more lackluster than ours. But they'll be better next week too.

Forget About The Foot, Williams Is Back :suds:

Mason Kelly:

HONOLULU – After crawling to the sideline following last season’s devastating left-foot injury, Kasen Williams was back in uniform Saturday.

After enduring two surgeries, the receiver ran a route in a game for the first time since last November.

After all of the rehab and extra work after practice, the senior didn’t just catch a pass, he led the team in receptions.

He didn’t put up gaudy numbers, but it’s a start.

“It felt good,” Williams said after Washington’s 17-16 win over Hawaii. “Obviously, there are some kinks I’ve got to work out, just from getting back out there, but we pulled out with a W. Jeff (Lindquist) had a great game and we’re going back to work on Monday.”

Williams finished with three catches for 11 yards. He didn’t shy away from contact. He didn’t feel any pain.

“My foot felt good,” he said. “I knew that coming in there was going to be a little bit more adrenaline, a little bit more on the line, so I knew I wasn’t going to really be worrying about my foot.”

When Williams took the field, he let the adrenaline take over. He didn’t focus on his foot.

“It’s a mindset,” he said. “If you think about your foot, it’s going to hurt. Obviously, it takes a little while to get warmed up, but as the game went on, I was feeling good. I was expecting to feel it a little bit more in the fourth quarter, but I didn’t.”

Throughout fall camp, Williams worked on regaining his feel for the game. There are few players on Washington’s roster who lingered on the field after practice than Williams. He caught balls from the JUGS machine. He worked on routes with D’Andre Goodwin.

He did everything he could to prepare his body and his mind for the first game of the season, and against the Rainbow Warriors, “I was ready to go.”

Interesting. Thank you. Hopefully the quarterback play will improve as the season goes on. I have to assume that Miles will be taking over now that his suspension is over, but it makes you wonder what would have happened in this game if he hadn't gotten himself suspended in the first place. Maybe the Huskies wouldn't have had to sweat it out towards the end. Then again, maybe it would have been a tough game either way. Who knows.

There was a good reason Miles got the start over Lindquist in the OSU game last year.

Jeff was put in a difficult situation this game, but the second half proved that it's time to give Miles the ball with this weeks game and see what he can do. Miles could struggle as well. He missed all the spring camp and wasn't working out with the ones much the last days of fall because Lindquist was going to get the Hawaii start.

My problem was with Smith. How the hell do you put a kid out there that is rattled as bad as Lindquist was and not make ANY adjustments to the play calling in that entire second half? Hawaii was blitzing nearly every down and showing they were doing it. They flat out dared UW to call a play to bust it and they never did. In the first half they ran a reverse and a couple of screens that worked. Actually looked like they understood Hawaii was over pursuing and they took advantage of it. One of their biggest plays came on such a down. Yet in the second half how many quick hits, reverses, screens, etc did they attempt?

6 3 and outs and I put the blame for most of that squarely on play calling and coaching.

You can't let a team like Hawaii dominate you from the defensive side. You simply can't. You have to make adjustments and call plays to break up what the defense is doing. It's play calling 101.

Smith is on a short leash for me. He was my biggest worry in the new staff coming in and game 1 was seriously not good for him. Better be a substantial step up in game 2.

This is what I'm worried about. With four consecutive home games beginning with the EWU game, the Huskies need to build some momentum and it's going to be difficult to do that if it takes Miles a while to get it going. He's going to have to shake the rust off fairly quickly, but until he does, the defense and running game is gonna have to keep the team in games.

Miles could struggle but I don't think he will. Not to the extent Lindquist did. For one, and I don't care about EWUs FCS rank, that defense isn't going to contain a mobile QB who has some experience. Don't forget he played a bit last year and performed decently, even against UCLA in a hostile environment.

I also liked how our running game finally showed up at the end of the Hawaii game. O line opened some big holes and they got the first downs to seal the victory. They got it done when it had to be done. I think at that moment is when they had their wake up call. That should be a big help, a running game that will produce is a young QBs best friend.

He might be a bit rusty but this is his chance and I think he's going to jump on it and light EWU up. EWU isn't UCLA.
