And there it is...

Class action lawsuit filed against Canadian Hockey League over wages | Toronto Star

A statement of claim filed in a Toronto court Friday and obtained by the Star, seeks $180 million in outstanding wages, vacation, holiday and overtime pay and employer payroll contributions for thousands of young players given as little as $35 a week for practices, games, training and travelling that could add up to more than full-time hours.

The league and its teams “conspired and agreed together . . . to act in concert to demand or require that all players sign a contract which the defendants knew was unlawful,” the claim alleges. “Such conduct was high-handed, outrageous, reckless, wanton, deliberate, callous, disgraceful, wilful and in complete disregard for the rights of the (players).”

The allegations have not been proved in court.

“There’s no question the CHL is violating minimum wage. These are for-profit organizations and there’s no rhyme or reason why they should be circumventing the laws on minimum wage.”

I happen to know a certain junior player who played in Medicine Hat in the early 70's that received $30 a week. Really hard to fathom that things haven't changed at all in 40 years.

Im sure in their response the CHL will say that the players receive free housing and that figure should be included in any income calculation ... wonder what else they can scrape into the equation

Spokane earned a 4-3 shootout win over the defending Memorial Cup champion Edmonton Oil Kings tonight. Spokane tied the game with just a little over 1:30 left in the third. The Chiefs are 7-3-3 so far this season and in second place in the US division, not bad for a team that many had pegged for worst in the conference.

When is the trade deadline? Windsor should trade Ho-Sang because they seem to have no shot at the postseason.

Trade deadline is in early January, just a little bit after the World Juniors are over.

Connor McJesus update:

in the last 14 games, he has had at least 4 points in seven of them.

Yeah, what these guys said was stupid but I don't think it was worth 15 games. 5 games and a stern lecture sure but not 15 games.

but, thanks to Ray Rice we live in a world where were protecting the women. I think that justifies 5 to 15 games

Russia wins game 1 of the Subway Super Series over Team WHL 3-2 in a shootout (went 11 rounds). Good to see those Russian punks are going to be easy to hate again this year.

I noticed that once the game was safely over, the chirping ramped up
(after shootout goals going past the CDN bench). detestable fuckers.

Virtanen's wheels though. whoa.
