Well it's official. The CHL's first millennium player will play next season. Don't know much about this kid yet but he's the 1st player in Q history to be granted exceptional status.
Not exactly sure how exceptional he is. I hear he's not better than Crosby or MacKinnon were at the same age, neither of whom were granted exceptional player status. But he is supposed to be better already than all the others in his draft class who are a year older.
And as luck would have it, my Sea Dogs traded away their captain at Christmas in a strange move, essentially giving up on the season and building for the future despite leading their division for most of the 1st half. In return they got a prospect and the eventual #1 overall pick! It was a very unpopular move at the time (it seemed unlikely the pick would be 1st overall) but if this guy lives up to the hype, nobody will be complaining.
Sounds like Nanaimo is looking to build a new 5,000 seat arena in the hopes of landing a WHL franchise. The Kootenay Ice are drawing flies and might be the team looking to re-locate.
