federer isn't going to come close to wining this tournament barring some sort of miracle. he's a step slower, his 2nd serve isn't the weapon it was, and his backhand is imminently attackable for even top 30 players now. what he did for a decade was extraordinary, but it's time to face facts. as long as he still loves playing, then good for him, though.

This sucks as a lot of players are being forced to retire. When I went to the US open last yr it was close to 90 and that was ridiculous especially sitting out in the sun so I can imagine what 100+ degrees feel like for the fans and players. If I lived in Australia you would never catch me at a day session ever

That's true also....No way does Isner quit if he won that 2nd set tiebreak

ESPN2 didn't show too much continuous coverage of FED's match, because they switched to another one.

But from what I saw, balls weren't flying off his racquet like they did in July. His balls actually seemed a bit too low and short at times, but I think I prefer that than to overhit balls.

It was more that he was very tentative. Even on easy overheads, he was just telegraphing them back in the court for Duckworth to get another two shots. And on the rare occasion where he tried to hit big, he netted quite a few.

Fed needs to get his mojo back. Its not just the racquet or being a step slower. He is not playing confidently.

Impressive 1st set from Sam.

Dolgopolov is 3 points away from forcing a 5th set with Chardy after being down 2 sets to 0

This is Sam big chance to make it to the 2nd week of a major finally. Beat Fognini and earn yourself a date with Novak and I can't be bad if he is eliminated then as long as it is not 6-2 6-2 6-3. Make Novak work in 2 of the sets and I'll be happy
