Some teams will have some tough decisions regarding which players to retain due to the cap decreasing to $64 million next season. St. Louis along with Vancouver will be forced one way or the other to move/buy-out players in order to shed salary.

oh I dont think for a second that ballard, booth and luongo will be here next season and even without them this year we have done ok. thats almost $15M off our cap. as long as the Sedin produce this team will be fine. most teams will be affected as well so it will balance out.

ballard and booth will be the new buyouts (your allowed 2 correct?) and Luongo will be moved. he will I believe it it cant exist and gillis will lose him for nothing.

Guys that could potentially be gone for the Devils:

-Clarkson is a UFA who will be getting big money, hopefully not from the Devils.

-Zidlicky is a UFA who is almost guaranteed to be gone with the log jam on D and the quality young guys we have in the system.

-Volchenkov or Tallinder seem to be the most likely candidates for a buyout.

-Ponikarovsky seems like a goner.

-Zubrus is a wild card, I would like to seem him come back but not for huge money.

-Elias said he will test the market but I hope he comes back for a hometown discount.

It will be interesting to see what kind of moves Gilman pulls out of his hat, that's for sure.

I don't think the Blues will have any problems. They have 15 guys signed for next season with over 25M in cap space. Granted Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Russell & Stewart are RFA's so decisions will have to be made, but the Blues will get the deals done for the players they want to keep.

these statements contradict each other. is that a problem? decide whom to keep and what to sign at reasonable rates IF they accept?

It's the Blues internal budget, if they stick to it, that will force them to make moves.

I don't see any major issues. They have cap space. They can sign Pietrangelo to a deal in the 5M per range & get Shattenkirk done for something between what Del Zotto & Subban got. Russell isn't going to get a huge raise. No big deal. Stewart's qualifying offer is going to be 3M. He's been rumored to be on the block for much of the year. If they're going to trade somebody it's probably him.

My take on Dupper.

If the Pens win the Cup, easy, bye-bue Dupper. An undrafted player into the NHL, 2 time cup winner (see IF above)... go take care of your family, chase the money my man. Dupper will fetch between 3-3.5 on the open market... too rich for Pens blood esp if folks think they are going to sign Letang AND Malkin AND Iggy.

If the Pens don't win the Cup... probably bye bye Dupper. Again, chase the money you silly undrafted, cup winner, aging player (not many contracts for him)

i think the pens would be lucky to keep him at 3.5.. 7th in the league in goals, on a 40 goal pace for an 82 game season, plays both ends, pks, seems like a good character guy.. some stupid team that needs goals will give him 5 mil, and regret it by december.

Ryan Malone comes to mind....Have a feeling he will get that type of deal from a team. Stupid on his part to pass it up.

Members of the $1 mil + Club that Minny has to make decisions on:

Backstrom ($6m): Unless they find a 'steal' somewhere else, he stays.

Bouchard ($4m): Probably stays, but unlikely to get much of a raise.

Cullen ($3.5m): He's 36, & there are a lot of young forwards in the pipeline, so I'm guessing he's gone.

Clutterbuck (1.4m): See Bouchard above.

I just look at all the cap space my team has & the great prospect pool & think THE ISLANDERS ARE GOING TO KICK SOME SERIOUS ASS IN YEARS TO COME!!

If Wang is willing to spend they can get a some good talent next year.

Another team in good position is the Coyote's. With both goalies UFA's wonder if Vancouver and Phoenix work something out?

Backstrom is an UFA so it's his choice. I doubt Bouchard is coming back. That's too much money for a guy who misses too many games.

Clutterbuck is a keeper.

I have to chuckle at Oilers fans who state "hey, we're not following the Islanders path"

/Actually, they're right, the Isles could and hopefully will make the playoffs this year.
