I thought the Islanders only required their prospects to attend the prospect camp three times like most teams do. After that attendance was optional. Nino was there in '10, '11, and '12. Is it possible that the Islanders offered him a chance to attend and he simply turned it down? After a full AHL season and the WC tourney I could see why he would choose to skip it. I think this might be a case of something that's being made out to be more than it actually is.

I honestly hope you're right. However I get the feeling this is the last straw. Snow hasn't said anything which is no surprise, but there's been speculation from Arthur Staple who covers the Isles for Newsday that Nino & the Isles aren't seeing eye to eye for a couple of weeks now. We just have to wait & see.

I honestly hope you're right. However I get the feeling this is the last straw. Nino Niederreiter has declined to attend prospect camp this year. Players are required to attend 3x, choose to attend after that. #Isles

I don't know if something happened after this interview dated May 20th but some good quotes from Nino.

“Overall I’m definitely a better player now than I was a year ago,” Niederreiter said. “I played a lot of minutes in Bridgeport this year and had the chance to gain a lot of confidence. And I gained even more at the World Championships.”

Niederreiter led the Sound Tigers during 2012-13 with 28 goals, and finished second on the club with 50 points in 74 games. Now, his sights are set on the next level.

“I will do everything I can over the summer to be in the best shape and the best player I can be in Islanders Training Camp.”

I don't know if something happened after this interview dated May 20th but some good quotes from Nino.

Maybe some fans are taking this too seriously on the Isles fansite, but after the crap his agent pulled during the season about Nino being passed over for a training camp invite & an opportunity to make the team most think Nino should be at prospect camp. They feel he needs to be their to show he's committed to the team. Me I don't think it's a big deal if he misses prospect camp, but Nino & his agent haven't done themselves any favors by their actions. We'll have to wait & see.

A player of his experience missing prospect camp is a non-issue IMO. Prospect camp is for players who'll be returning to the CHL or European leagues, new draftees, and undrafted invitees looking to earn a contract or increase their chances of getting drafted the next year. A player who's had a full year AHL experience and three years previous attendance isn't going to get anything by attending again.

It may win him some points if he goes but I wouldn't in any way consider it a slight against the organization by not attending either.

Many believe Nino has burned some bridges with the organization because of what happened this year. I on the other hand really don't care. I think it's more important for him to be ready for training camp. If Garth thinks it's time for the games to end & trades him I'll completely understand. Garth hasn't said a word, which is how he operates. It's why when Isles fans hear rumors about what the Isles might do we rarely believe them. Garth doesn't tell the media anything unless he wants it out their.
