The franchise tag on Johnson would make him the highest paid player on the team, I believe.

it's still pretty low risk. I don't trust MJ enough to lock him up long term. I could see him disappearing next year. Make him earn that investment. These situations are exactly what the franchise is for (not to lock down your kickers).

I just don't think WR is a big enough need to warrent a 2nd round pick. I think Jones is the future #2 of this team and Sanu and Hawkins are the slot guys. I just don't want a WR that early.

As far as Ansah goes, you need to read more up on him, while only having been playing football for 3 years he isn't that raw. From what I've read he is far less raw than JPP was in college. Also Johnson, Gilberry and Geathers are all FA's. I think the pass rush is far more important in the 1st than a S. I think the top few safeties are all about the same and we could get one with our 1st pick in the 2nd.

My main reason for wanting Amerson is that before this season he was a top 5 player. He didn't have a great year no. He still ended up with 5 INT's. He is a big, fast guy with great hands. And as far as unpreparedness, I'm not to worried about that with Zimmer as DC. He will have him prepared. Newman, Clements and Jones aren't getting any younger and I'm not sold on Kirkpatrick. I think we need a guy like Amerson back there who can make plays.

I could live with this Elam in the 1st if we resign Johnson and Gilberry and drafted Amerson in the 2nd along with Green. I'm just afraid Johnson is going to get a HUGE contract this year, and if he goes, we have to draft another DE early.

WR isn't a huge need. It's a luxury pick and Hopkins is a damn good football player. He might go first round...in fact I think he probably will go first round. Ansah I know is a freak athlete. They could develop him. It could take a couple years. I guess it would depend on how the rest of the draft played out. It's defintiely a boom or bust draft.
