Depends on what the "goal" is. If its winning a WS, they need someone to replace what Colby has been in the Postseason.
If its just making the playoffs, they dont need to acquire anyone. IMO
This.
if the goal is anything short of winning the WS then they're wasting everyone's time
last I looked a 5 game lead in the division and the 3rd best record in the Majors is results, especially with all the pitching injuries
Dont you mean tied for 2nd best record?

Depends on the time frame, they've been to the last two, so I'm pretty sure the goal is just that, and they have one of the best records this year, so I'm sure the goal is still the same, they have one of the best farm systems in the league ALONG with that great record, so they've done it right top to bottom, they've sustained this success over 3 years B/C they have a superior minor league system, and I'd like to see that continue
A large part of their success stems from the fact that they try to fill holes with guys from within the system first and then look to FA or trades to fill the holes they can't
There aren't too many players of the BIG transaction variety, most have been low leverage moves or internal; Cheap FA's, being sellers in the trade game (Texieira), or equal trades that aren't big haul varieties and not seen a a big deal at the time (Napoli/Hamilton) etc...
I only count a couple acquisitions from big leverage moves making up the current roster; Beltre, Adams, Uehara, Lowe (C. Lee trade), and Yu Darvish
and none of these overly depleted the farm system (wieland, erlin, smoak and some other surplus arms few people who aren't fans of the rangers would know)
And all of them replaceable Smoak by Moreland, Erlin and Wieland by Grimm & Buckel
So just b/c they don't go out and get a starter this go round doesn't mean they're wasting "your" time, I'm sure they did their due diligence but a move they were comfortable with didn't materialize, they aren't going to make a trade that significantly harms the future just for the sake of making a trade
Daniels doesn't make moves just to make moves. if he makes a move it will be to improve the team now and in the future. you talk like it's all over as far as this trade deadline is concerned but there are still 5 days left and they didn't make the move on Cliff Lee until last minute.

TEX acquired Cliff Lee on 9 July 2010.
Scotty ... going back a week or so ... you thought TEX should trade for Justin Upton to replace Hamilton in 2013 and onward.
Since trading for ARI's #5 hitter (BA and SLG) is probably not the missing piece to bring the WS back to Arlington this year ... by your definition ... that would be wasting time.
We're all going to have to wait to see what JD pulls out of his hat.
i suggested that i thought Upton was an option and apparently so did the rangers at the time. and with the strong possibility that Hamilton won't be back next year Upton continues to be an option to replacing him during the off-season.
i thought this board was for talking possible options and possible moves that the Rangers might move. guess not.
Was not aware that TEX announced it was considering acquiring Upton midseason. If they did ... my apologies.
My thinking is that the time for working out the issues with the 2013 OF is in November.
This board is for talking about possible options and moves. That's what we were doing. You promoted an idea that in my opinion does not advance TEX playoff potential ... so I disagreed with you. Doesn't mean you are wrong and I am right ... that's talking.
It just seemed illogical that you would promote the Upton consideration for midseason acquisition on one hand and then next say that anything that didn't promote the post season potential was a waste of time.
Texas didn't announce anything. Just his hoping and a little speculation. He gets kinda whiny when someone disagrees with him doesn't he?
sorry if you see it that way. reports posted on web sites like mlbtraderumors have stated that the rangers MAY be interested now or during the off-season in Upton as an outfield upgrade this season or a possible replacement next season if they lose Hamilton. like many others on here i posted comments on what, if the Rangers preceded on this course of action, they might consider doing to accomplish this deal.
as a fan, i like to consider what the Rangers might do or not do to improve their team in ways that carry over thru the season and beyond. i obviously offend some here because i like to convey my thoughts on this matters to this board.
