2003: Solich is fired because in the 3 losses they were bad. Gave up an average of 7.8 points and 236.4 yards in the 10 wins and 36.6 points and 499 yards in the 3 losses after year 6.

2007: Callahan was fired because he sucked but also gave up an average of 23 points and 402.8 yards in the 5 wins and 48.57 points and 529.71 yards in the 7 losses after year 4.

2012: Pelini was brought in to "fix the defense". In year 5 he gave up and average of 17.2 points and 271.6 yards in the 10 wins and 53.5 points and 595 yards in the 4 losses.

As I have said before, Bo may have won a lot of games in his first 5 years compared to many other coaches but what has that gotten us?

Good analysis and comparison. I will say this - he hasn't lived up to the hype in regards to his defensive prowess.

I have no real answer for you though-but who at this moment out there is better AND would want to come to Nebraska? I can't think of anyone at the moment, but after the NFL clears out a few college coaches, there will be even fewer available than before, unless you count the fired NFL coaches.

Unless he bolts for another job I think they'll keep him at least a few more years. Next season might artificially bolster his stock with the schedule we have. If we lay big eggs in our losses like we did this year again, then maybe they get rid of him, but I doubt it.

I don't have any idea what the answer is.......I know we can't fire another coach after a 10 win season.......I've been secretly hoping for the past couple months he'll take another job but I don't think that's likely......

I know I didn't post with any of you 10 years ago, but I was ok with firing Solich at the time......looking back, I was spoiled by the mid 90's run and expected perfection each and every season.......firing Solich may have been the worst thing to happen to Husker football since before Devaney came here......

I don't know what they should do at this point.....:noidea:

Devaney made changes and won national titles.

Osborne made changes and won national titles.

Solich attempted to make changes but was fired anyway.

Callahan refused to make changes, and was fired.

Pelini?

That is the toughest part Driaz. There really isn't anything that can be done. He has won to many games to legitimately fire him. All we can truly do is sit back and hope he some how stops being so damn stubborn and figures it out or leaves on his own.

One thing's for sure, not burning the clock and taking it into the locker room at half was foolish as hell. NU had the lead and momentum and damn near gave it back.

What changes should he make RA?

More emphasis on fundamentals, get stronger up front (both sides of the ball), and simplify things on defense to suit the amount of time they have with these college kids.

That's what I've observed over the last couple years anyway.

They actually seemed prepared to start the game today though.

I agree with all that RA. I just believe that he is too stubborn and has surrounded him with a staff filled with yes men so he won't be challenged.

Yeah, and the other tough part is we have no idea what the new AD is going to be like.....I really wish Tom wasn't leaving just yet......I would like an AD that is respected enough to pull it off to take the lead in hiring assistant coaches that aren't just yes men for Pelini.......I don't know if Osborne would ever go to those levels of micro-managing the head coach though even if he believed that should be done......if Pelini gets pissed that he can't hire his boys and leaves, oh well.......but then again we're in the same boat of good luck finding a replacement coach if the AD is going to tell you who your assistant coaches will be........just kind of thinking out loud......man we're fucked.....

Yeah, I'm with ya.

That's why I put a ? after whether or not he'll make any changes.

I personally feel he should be given the opportunity like Devaney, Osborne. As others have said, who else will take the job?

I personally like what Beck's doing with the offense. Better pass blocking and there could be a scoring explosion the likes of 83' next season.

I have hopes of the defense improving due to Bo red-shirting so many kids the last two classes.

I'm no genius, but I've followed football all my life, and it's quite apparent to me that penalties, turnovers, missed tackles, etc etc........mostly stem from being gingers up front.

Any time you get bullied up front on either side of the ball, you have to rely on pulling shit out of your ass at other positions to make up for it................when you have to rely on pulling shit out of your ass, you're going to do stupid shit........like hold, block illegally, miss tackles, fumble the ball, make bad throws, get our block knocked off trying to make a play......

Offensive Line and Defensive Line need to be stronger and more physical. That is not something that is a recruiting issue, that is something that is a coaching issue. You can make your guys as strong mentally and physically as you want......you just gotta get it done as a coach.

We're not getting that done.

I just think recruiting is a major part of it and you're never going to change my mind about it.

Those are frustrations of course, but those are all part of football, and many of those can be attributed to the talent of your opponent and you just have to tip your hat and move on.....

The shit that pisses me off is excessive number of false starts and personal foul penalties......not being able to get the defense set prior to the snap.....stuff like that is what I cringe about......those are the mental/coaching things that should be fixable through coaching......

And yes, I'm all for a new strength and conditioning coach and program......We are seeing good to great results with the skill position players, but both lines need serious work......

we need better talent. If Bo is able to get the talent that he had when he was at LSU we could beat these SEC teams. As of right now we dont have and aint getting it. We need to recruit better.
