No, they are DFAing him. They announced when his last day would be and are letting him go with some fanfare. He was going to keep on playing had they not decided to DFA him. The 2 circumstances are completely different to me.
My guess is that the Rangers give him some type of injury settlement as an incentive to retire and not injure himself any further.
The Rangers are wanting to recoup the insurance money then.
