Bengals comfortable enough to promote AJ McCarron as Andy Dalton's primary backup - Cincy Jungle

apparently 6'4'' McCarron has rehabbed his shoulder.

AJ: hey Andy, where did you learn to throw a football?
Andy: my coach taught me?
AJ: was your dad the coach?

AJ: hey Andy, your wife is cute. we should double some time.
Andy: ok
AJ: your wife won't be mad that my wife is a smoking hot super model right?
Andy: I'll ask her.

AJ: that last play where you missed AJ Green by 20 yards, what was going through your mind?
Andy: "oh shit!"

If that is true, at the very least our backup has been upgraded, now we must hope he gets a chance to show what he can do. He at least is not Andy Dalton.

I'm willing to give AJ a shot. Not expecting much however.

Two AJ's on the same offense would just be too confusing. We are not ready for this.

if Dalton was given as little support as those fellas we'd be like "Andy who?"

I love the picture of Akili, Jon, and Gus...... It's really no wonder that some of our fans like Dalton.

I don't think either one of those guys would have done well with more help. Klingler was a mis-match from the get go. A spread option QB about 20 years before his time. The only other team that ran plays like he did in college was Houston with Warren Moon and the run/shoot. He was never going to come in and be a west-coast type QB. It was a bad pick just from that standpoint.

Akili was a bum. That's all there was to it. He even admitted as much. He never studied, continually left practices to party on the weekend flying back out to the west coast, etc...etc...He was never going to be any good. He didn't have the work ethic.

true, but they were still way more talented than Andy Dalton. Dalton's 'success' is a mirage. There are 4 factors to the apparent belief that Andy Dalton is a decent QB

1. AJ Green saving bad passes and turning them into completions. who other than Stafford has this luxury?
2. lots of dink and dunk passes to beef up his completion %
3. decent OL, lots of QBs don't have this luxury
4. good Andy shows up against crappy teams, or good teams that are apparently having an off night (Denver), and bad Andy shows up when we play a game that matters. and when that happens, he's really, really bad.

If we have to go with a new QB and take some lumps, then that's what we need to do. We've hit the ceiling with Dalton and there's no where to go but down. it will become apparent eventually though. This mirage of pseudo success can't last long.

You're 100% correct. I don't deny that at all.

I was just pointing out, that yes, AJ could be worse. The fact is, no one really knows. The defense, and the rest of the team is built to win now. If they were ever going to make a move at QB or something to win now, it wouldn't be with AJ.

we can only hope that he works harder than Dalton in the preseason and then that the coaches see that happening.

McCarron hurt his draft stock by staying in school his senior year, but of course, that would mean he's more prepared when the time comes.

If Dalton gets hurt, I fully expect McCarron do give us something we haven't had at the backup QB in awhile, competency. looking at his college stats, compared to Dalton's college stats, one would think that McCarron is the more accurate and the more celebrated QB, even though he was drafted in a later round.

Lets go all in and trade for Philip Rivers. He may or may not be on the block

I'd give them Dalton, our first rounder and a third rounder.

Do they say no?

I heard they wanted 2 firsts and a second.
I'd give them 2 firsts and either let them pick a player off the roster, or next year's 3rd which converts to a 2nd if they win a playoff game
