Only with humans, and only with some humans.
I'm only going based off the finished product. And last years finished product was a vastly better product then the previous product. There's been far too many question marks over the years of utilizing the polls. It may take many more years if the committee too draw a serious comparison. But based on last year I wouldn't change the system. Let the committee do their thing if they give us reason to complain so be it. But so far they haven't

It's hard for me to enjoy something when I know it is only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose. If they can keep doing a good job like last season, I have no complaints.

Because they are a damn good football team and the only reason they had a hard time last year is because they played in the SEC West.

They looked ever better offensively this past weekend, even though it was a cupcake.

Unlike Tennessee that got hyped up beating teams like Vandy and Kentucky, Arkansas was playing tough teams and doing well.
Arky hasn't been a good team for years. They are like the Oregon State of the PAC12, average at best.

Alabama? Yes, solid team
Auburn? Yes, better than Bama
Georgia? Sure, Chubb is beast
LSU? they sucked asshole last year but okay why not they have a good RB maybe you don't need a QB in CFB
TAMU? Yes, good win against ASU even thought the "neutral site" is laughable
Ole Miss? Doubtful vastly overrated. Bum fucked by TCU.
Arkansas? NO. FUCKING Laughable. 2 conference wins last year and beat a shit Texas team.
Mizzou? Fine, they won the East even though it was a soft conference schedule, maybe the QB position improves
Tennessee? NO, Hell fucking no! As with Arkansas, prove something.
Miss St? NO So they move in for beating Southern Miss 34-16???

Other receiving votes: Florida

:les:

5-6/10 belong there in my opinion. 11 teams received votes. Normally I don't give a shit about team sec or even the rankings but this is just a SLAP in the face to CFB fans!. They aren't even trying. Either they are slobbering on the nobs of the SEC or they are the laziest motherfuckers and decided to just go with what they know.

:kissass:

I mean, FL receiving votes? Please anyone justify that shit.
Arkansas and Tenn ranked after ANOTHER season of mediocrity?

And the best part is, as the actual good teams in the SEC (AUB, BAMA, GEORGIA) start killing these wannabes their resume get bolstered because "look at all these top 25 teams they beat".

/rant :finebaum:

Also, inb4 someone brings up the B1G. Yes most the teams suck ass, but has no relevance to the cocksucking by the AP.

:trash:

Voters are spread out cross the country. I think most states get 1 voter, some bigger states get 2 or 3 voters, and the total is like 60 or so votes. Something along those lines.

In order for there to be a concentrated effort for the media to do these things, or a bias, it means that basically random people, the majority of which are well beyond the SEC footprint, would all have to be in on it.

And of course, that's not what's going on. Let me explain how polls work and how these things happen.

Everyone has different opinions on which teams are the best. The points in the score are basically no different than averages, in terms of being the totals, just not divided by number of voters.

So, 1 voter ranks Team A lets say #1 and Team B #3. Another voter does the exact opposite. What ends up happening is they both end up about in the same place. But now you have 60 or so voters doing it, and you basically get the average of all those.

It's unlikely that any 1 voter is actually ranking 10 teams, much less 60 voters doing it. Instead - some people think LSU is going to win the SEC West or do real well. Another guy thinks Arkansas is going to do it. More people think Alabama will do it, and another group is on the Auburn bandwagon.

The end result is just like the example I mention with Team A and Team B. multiple teams ranked in the same general area, even if nobody specifically had the final results.

And lets say you got a big game at the end of the year, say Alabama and Auburn, or Ohio St and Michigan. The 2 teams are undefeated/have similar records. People think they rise in the polls to "hype the game", but really it's just a product of what I mention above. Some people think 1 team will win, others thing the other will win, the end result is both rise in the polls, and/or cannibalize each other and end up closer to each other.

Of course, everyone would rather blame ESPN and the media rather than understand the processes and nuances of the polls. Throw fits and make threads on a weekly basis because multiple SEC teams are at the top, while knowing damn good and well they still have to play each other and will knock one of them down. And before they play what is going on? The above.

It's also why people to put so much into rankings at the time the game is played rather than the end of the year rankings are rather silly.

I have no problem with the teams at the top, as they are top notch teams. It's the teams that get over ranked because they'll lose multiple games and look bad but not fall out (LSU). Or it's the teams that should have never been ranked but are and then the other SEC teams get to boast at their hard schedule and all the top 25 teams they faced (SCAR, TAMU).

I don't think there is some big sec conspiracy I just think there is a some overhyping. I made this to be fun more than anything and there was some fun chat. It's week 1, as you and others have said this mostly won't matter at the end of the year. I just found it laughable to see 10 teams in but it'll make it that much sweeter come bowl season :)

They were good last year they just came up short a handful of times but scared a lot of really good teams. Trust me you don't want to play Arkansas when they are motivated, especially in Fayetteville. This isn't Vandy or Kentucky we are talking about.

By the end of the year some of that will wash out. I expect Florida to get in the top 25, but also wouldn't be surprised to see the 2 mississippi schools fall out and I wouldn't be shocked to see USCe drop too.

On the B1G side, I expect Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Nebraska to move into the top 25 at some point.

whisky will bounce back in at some point in sure.....im going to reserve judgement on minny and nebraska. but being week 2 no one that lost should stay in the poll at this point. especially since i believe the teams that did lose this week didnt really show in their loss the grit to still be ranked. too many undefeated teams with potential still.

The top 25 is pretty liquid, especially early on. Any given week one team can play outstanding and suddenly they are getting bumped up into the list. I think Minny and Neb are marginal top 25 teams and Wisconsin will probably find its way in the top 20 by the end of the year...but at least some of that has to do with their relatively weak B1G west schedule. All those teams will rack up some wins in conference play.

Wisconsin didn't look too bad against Bama.
I believe they should still be ranked.

Damn good explanation of the polling process 4down20. One thing that does affect polling is the herd mentality, irrespective of the geographical area. Some pollsters follow the herd or the reputation of the brand name. There is a bit of "blame" that is deserved by ESPN and the media...but understandable from a business sense. Even you would have to admit that ESPN overly hypes and jacks off the SEC and the Rusty Cows. They are in bed with both financially because of their business relationship with the SEC Network and the Longhorn Network. They would be crazy and maybe even negligent if they didn't do so. Same with the B!G Network and PAC 12 Network carriers.

It's a drumbeat. Beat out continuously by the biggest drum.

Easily heard and accepted by the downtrodden. Only the strong can withstand it and dare to peer behind the apathetic curtain.

It's just another conference.

I think it's better that they are perceived as they are. Cuts deeper when the truth slices.
