And Hak isn't blameless either. I love Provorov as much as the next guy, but only Jaccob Slavin (76) has been on the ice for more goals against on the PK than Provorov (74) in the last 3 years. And Slavin has played 6 more minutes, I bet Provorov can overtake him in those 6 minutes the way the PK is going this season. Provorov is also 13th in xGA while on the PK. Meaning the Flyers blead high danger scoring chances with him out there. Maybe Provorov sucks on the PK? Maybe they should try someone else out there.

^And Hextall isn't blameless. He should've added Grabner as we've discussed before. That probably doesn't cover it all, but he should have added guys that can play on the PK.
Exactly my point.

More fun with stats..

SHGA/60 over the last 3 seasons (top 16 in SHTOI listed)
1. Lehtera - 10.7
2. Laughton - 10.2
3. Hagg - 10.1
4. MDZ - 9.2
5. Provorov - 8.9
6. AMac - 8.8
7. Filpula - 8.5
8. Gudas - 8.1
9. Giroux - 8.1
10. Couturier - 8.1
11. Bellemare - 7.7
12. Raffl - 7.7
13. Manning - 6.7
14. Vandevelde - 6.5

15. Simmonds - 6.1
16. Read - 5.39

What are guys like Lehtera, Laughton and Hagg still doing on the PK? And for months we heard about how they felt better about the PK because it was better late last year. Think maybe Matt Read coming back up had anything to do with that? Maybe he would look a little better on that 4th line than Lehtera who BLEEDS goals against on the PK, yet still ranks 5th on the team in SHTOI this season. Scott Laughton has 'looked good' on the PK, but he's bleeding goals against too. In fact he's the team worst this season, 14.98 SHGA/60. If you don't count Weise (17.1 SHGA/60) who's only played 14 minutes.
I get saying they don't have the PK ability to be good. But they're throwing out guys that suck at it and have proven it. Try someone else. Anyone else on the roster. Ghost, Konecny, Patrick, Simmonds, Weal, Voracek. They've all essentially played no SH time this season. I'd take unproven over proven to be garbage at this point.

The problem is in putting this team together he has only small offensively talented players. He doesn't do particularly well on getting any defensive players or bangers that wear another team down nor goalies in here that can make a difference.

Whatever it is, the PK blows and he should be doing SOMETHING. Fire the coach, make a trade, sign a guy. Do something.

Weise has worked pretty hard, laid the wood to people and really been effective, but he got lucky there. Pretty sure the trailing player tapped the puck right over to his forehand, sort of making the deke for him and then he just roofed it.

He's much improved this season, but still one of the last players on our team that I'd expect to score on a breakaway...Lol

Luck or not.....hard work pays off, and he got his check right there!!!!

Soo, we keep saying the PK can't get any worse though.. and it does..

15-16: 80.5%
16-17: 79.8%
17-18: 75.8%
18-19: 68.4%

It's getting to the point where Lappy might be the worst employee in hockey. He sucked when he started and has continually gotten worse. It takes a pretty special boss to hold on to you with that kind of ineptitude.

I don't see opposing teams continuing to score at a pace of near 32% while we're killing penalties when there are only two teams in the Nhl with that strong of a power play. Most everyone else is not even close, so even those are outliers and their numbers will decrease.

Idk what the reasoning is behind keeping Laperriere, but yes, they probably should've let him go in the offseason. The timing may not be best if you do it now and who knows what other options there are at the moment.

What are the odds that Dale Weiss scores on a breakaway, Laughton scores two, both on backhanders and we give up 2 shorties on the same PK?

Maybe Grabner didn't want us, you just don't know. Either way, I think we already have the tools to be better at killing penalties. The system definitely appears broken. I mean Coots and Provy are absolute studs defensively. I also think Laughton, Raffl, G, Hagg and Gudas are at least decent.

It's just that time and time again we've watched our penalty kill leave a deadly shooter like OV or Stamkos wide open or fail to check a guy directly in front of the net.

These have been the best and most consistent players on this team to date, why? Because they aren't afraid to do the dirty work!

So here we are 5 years into Hexy's rule, 4 years into Haks tenure as coach. Can anyone honestly say we've made strides from where we were? And I mean honestly! Maybe it's time for a whole new brigade(including Hexy) and get away from hiring the hometown guys.

I wish we had more players willing to do dirty work.
Why I like the blue collar guys more than the Prima Donnas! This shit is so old, bring someone like Torts or Keene in and I bet our leaders play a whole lot different!

Our leaders would play a whole lot less because they would be held accountable for their actions on the defensive side of the ice.
