I don't visit the main hockey forum very often, but interestingly in one thread asking which three teams will miss the playoffs after having made them last season, people are naming us left and right.

To me, that is a lot more about hatred of our franchise in general than logic, but so be it.

I think they're all fucking crazy to expect that we're missing the playoffs this season, but perhaps that's just me. We're trending upwards, if anything, and those of us following this team closely realize that.

The main hockey boards is like taking a stroll thru the asylum during rec time.

Some of them fellas are a couple sandwiches short of a picnic!!!!

Honeymoon in Vegas is over! Great game Elliott fantastic. Loved the balance of the lines 4th line putting in some solid minutes. Simmer looked great I called him he just didn't score first...

A few notes from the game though:

Simmonds had a quick start out west last season too and continues that trend. Now let's keep him healthy.

Really nice to see Simmonds and Hagg not only lead the team in hits (13 combined), but points too (2 each).

If we've learned anything from this, play physical and get to the dirty areas, the puck will eventually find the back of their net enough times.

I will never, ever get tired of seeing MAF swim around in his crease to no avail and get yanked after giving up five goals.

Brian Elliott withstood the early storm and never really looked back. Now let's keep him healthy...Lol

A couple of our defensemen had some uncharacteristically bad errors cleaned up by Elliott, but nobody does it quite like MacDonald. He's like the exact opposite of everything he touches turns to gold. Even when Karlsson skated into him in the slot while down a man, he was penalized. I put the first goal against on him too.

That power play is still deadly. Never really got to see the second unit in action...Lol

Loving the 3rd and 4th lines so far. JvR is a very underrated passer, especially for his size. Vorobyev reminds me of a poor man's Kuznetsov. Laughton is much improved and Raffl could probably be plugged successfully into any line right now.

Seconds before our game, I reluctantly watched the Rangers try to steal a win and our air time against Nashville. They must've been trying too hard because they sent out 7 fucking skaters on a delayed penalty. The refs called it, but I never remember that happening in my entire hockey life. Literally all 7 of them were in the offensive zone. That's some silly shit.

Real nice way to start the season. The 2nd period was fantastic. Elliot was fantastic. Maybe a little bit under the radar, I thought Raffl was one of their best players last night. Looked fast, looked tough, even dangled a few times. Really strong start for him. If he's on the 4th line all year, he's going to be the best player on the ice most of the time when it's 4th line vs. 4th line. He played like that last night.

With Raffl, I saw that in the preseason and he's just carrying it over. Could play on any of our lines and might help give us one of the best 4th lines in hockey.

Great call on Raffl. I was saying to myself if he keeps playing like that JVR might find himself a 4th line LW. Elliott was just like before he got hurt. Not the greatest game ever but timely big saves makes a huge difference. Simmer is back!
