Wizards are the Blazers of the East. Two guards carrying the team and every year in the playoffs they do nothing.

Looks like the Wizards might pull out a win.

Looks like it but appearances can be deceiving at times.

Agreed.

The difference is that you can maybe go somewhere in the East if you get the right matchups.

Yep - doubt Wall will be traded for several reasons including the fact that his contract #s in a few seasons will be tough for anyone to fit into their cap. I don't think that Beal is going anywhere but perhaps & I would not have much of an issue w/ that depending on what they received in return.

Gortat could also perhaps be part of a trade - not because he is good - but because he at least can contribute a bit as a rental & has an expiring contract. However IMO the biggest thing is changing the FO to try to stop making more stupid decisions moving fwd. We will see.

The Wizards front office has been making stupid decisions since the early 80s.

This is what happens when you short cut the rebuild and strive to assemble a 50 win roster with limited upside. It is Why I love what the 6ers have done so much. It is the opposite of the typical Wizard strategy that guarantees no championship contention ever.

Yep but I believe that they could start to turn it around & not simply by blow it up & tanking to get there. First step has to be to fire Grundfeld regardless of what happens over the next week or so. Then build around Wall & Beal & primarily with younger pieces unless you have a chance to get another true star in the next few years who is still in his prime - not some aging vet or high priced role player. OH yeah - they need to get rid of Gortat if at all possible - he has his moments but is inconsistent & if that is the case they would be better served w/ a younger player.

They need more players like Oubre who have potential to grow in a system with someone like Wall. Will they go in this direction? Probably not.

Wall and Beal are both really good players, but the only way the Wizards were ever going to truly contend with them was to sign a legit superstar FA like KD.

That ship has sailed.

I agree there are some things that can be done to make the team incrementally better, but I have a hard time envisioning a pathway to getting enough talent around Wall and Beal to make them legit threats. Their on and off feuding does not help either.
