I feel like a lot of teams sell tickets for the next round before the previous is over. The Caps didn't advertise 2nd round tix (maybe that is another step), but I definitely got an e-mail to buy tix for the 2nd round before we had defeated Boston.

But I REALLY don't understand the confetti/streamers. What the hell is that?

Just hope its enough to make the hockey gods upset.

No idea, but you have to think they are starting to jinx themselves. Ads for the next series tickets going on sale on their website before game 5 ( The New York Rangers Think They Already Won The Series ), streamers/confetti after game 5 win, and now this? Combined, that's worse than last years Caps oil painting with the cup.

I read a stat this morning that surprised me (if you discount the Gaborik goal last night (goalie pulled for an extra attacker), the Rags have gone over 144 minutes without scoring a 5-on-5 goal). Historically the zebras put away their whistles in a game 7, thus the Caps have to be feeling pretty good about their position right now.

That doesn't sound right to me I'm pretty sure Stralmans goal in game 5 was 5-on-5.

It definitely wasn't during a PP, but I wonder if there was a delayed penalty or something, because I've heard that stat from several sources today.

I think it's been a pretty even series, but I think the Rangers have to feel we have their number a little right now and we've been the stronger team in the more recent games. They are struggling to score and have depended a lot on goals from their blue liners. That's generally not a sustainable model. Caps played like ass in game 1 and lost. Since then, they've won 3 of the last 5 and the two games the Rangers won took 3 OTs and a goal in the last 10 seconds with a 2-man advantage on the ice.

The trouble for the Rangers is we're playing their game better than them. Roughly 50 blocked shots for the Caps the last 2 games compared to roughly 20 for the Rangers. So if we're playing better D than them, the Rangers just don't have the horses up front to outplay us.

And that's why a lot of the Caps' fans were confident coming in to this series. Because we know the Rangers in the playoffs.... they play great D and have great defenders, they have mediocre forwards, and Lundqvist is often not as good as you'd expect in the postseason. They also have some history of losing to us in recent years, so that has to make them a little nervy going into the deciding game.

They've won 7 games 7s in a row at MSG. That's fine. They can have 7, because we have...

1. Every paper has win+loss versions ready to go in big sporting events. This was an elimination game, so this qualifies. If this made it to someones doorstep, thats a newsworty fuck up. If it's just a leaked pic of copy that is ready to go, then this a a big non-story.

2. I am a STH, and can guarantee teams sell next round tix early.
When we actually MAKE the playoffs, I have rounds 1 AND 2 bought before the first puck drops. Same for ECF and SCF - both bought and paid for before round 2 is over.. So again... a non-issue.

I agree with both bold items, and this DID make it to people's doorstep. The early edition was sent out with this story and it included a picture taken in game 5 with a caption for game 6. You WRITE the story, but you don't get it ready to print like this until you fill in the details. Real papers don't do that, and the NY Post is of course not a real paper. So, not all that surprising. Full story here Hockey gods angered.
