That is exactly what I was thinking.

Having a badass offensive line (and Elliot) in 2014 made Barrett look better than he is. Having an ass offensive line (and no Elliot) in 2016 made Barret look worse than he is. I think the truth lies somewhere in between.

I wouldn't discredit the coaching that's been mentioned either.

To me OL is the key. They are the great multiplier to any RB and QB. If your OL is weak, your QB will lot look good.

Same thing happened to Tebow. He won the Heisman his Sophomore year. By the time CUM and Addazio were done with him, he barely made the draft.

He never progressed after his freshman year. This year I felt as if they didn't call plays to his strength either and he didn't have zeke in the backfield and thomas at wr

How much of his good play was actually a result of the logjam/competition at the position a couple of seasons ago? Some guys just do better when they have somebody to out-perform.

I can guess that a few of you might point out that if you can't get yourself up for competing with the opposing teams, you have no business playing schoo--er, football at this level, but some guys are wired differently.

Not having any good WR's certainly didn't help him this year. Just look at his WR's in 2014. Devin Smith 2nd round pick. Michael Thomas 2nd round pick. As well as Nick Vannett and Jeff Heuerman who were both drafted in the 3rd round as TE's. Ohio State simply didn't have the play makers on offense this year.

Yeah...well, he shouldn't have been.
Clearly. If not fur Urbz, he wouldn't have even gotten a combine invite. Hell he would've probably been a converted TE by his Junior year. Urb was the best thing to ever happen to that kid, dafucc you talking about?

Ohio State's offense is not "1940s style". Don't take this as defending their offense or trying to call it good bc it wasn't but 1940s style is not the way to describe it
Seemed like there was no innovation at all. Just straight up "line up and try to beat your man". As you saw, it doesn't play against a well-coached, well-prepared team.

I think the offensive coaching the past few years has had a lot to do with it.

The Clemson Semi-Final game and the Michigan State game last year being the most telling.

A good amount of the time the offensive potential of this team was handcuffed by awful play calling and game planing.

You can't go empty a bunch of times, especially when your oline is struggling and expect to have success throwing the ball or with awful totally predictable QB runs

:L The most highly recruited kid eva'! Clearly one of the GOAT college players. He would have been a great in the NFL as well if CUMstain hadn't used him as a battering ram for 3 years and developed his QB skills.

Meyer is the scum of the Earth in so many ways.

He had as much of a chance to be great in the NFL as Dennis Eckersley did with those mechanics. That kid was always an athlete playing QB - Urban just knew how to get the most out of him.

I agree there didn't seem to be any sort of game plan whatsoever. It was like they were just picking plays at random and hoping they worked

Maybe the kid is just at his ceiling. He's athletic and can throw but is he really a QB? Dual threat QBs can look better early in their careers because you dont know tendencies . But if he's not one to hit the film room and adjust what he's doing to how they are playing him and he's just relying on his athleticism then teams with good defenses are going to make him look bad. I'm not one to see too many TOSU games but to me they have dumb down the playbook because I never saw too many well designed plays. Just a thought.
