What happened to JT Barrett?? He was really good in 2014 and to me it just looks like he has regressed the last 2 years. Did Herman really have that big a impact on his performance??

Last year everyone blamed it on his confidence with the whole QB competition with Cardale. Afyer this season, however, yes it think having a good QB coach/offensive coordinator is the difference. There are other factors of course but i think coaching is the biggest one

Seemed to me the OSU rode a bad ass OL to a NC in 2014. This year they rode a bad OL out of the playoffs.

I was wondering the same thing. 2 years ago, he was accurate, hitting WR in stide for those extra YAC. This year if the receiver is not wide open and stopped he had zero chance.

Now the real interesting question will be is what do we do about JT wanting to come back next season when we have Joe Burrow, Dwayne Haskins, and Tate Martell in the wings? Also we just hired a new OC and a QBs coach from SF?

The team plays a 1940's style offense. They are way too predictable.

Bad offensive line, bad scheme, bad playcalling...all have hurt his confidence.

You see him now and everything he does is hesitant when before he would instinctively tuck and run or find the right read. A "dual threat" guy shouldn't be taking so many sacks.

Other than him having a bum shoulder or something, I don't have any explanations about why he's regressed so badly with his accuracy or willingness to go downfield.

He hasn't been the same since his injury in '14. I have wonder if that has something to do with it.

He's coming back next season?

Seems like he's been at Ohio State forever.

Ohio State's offense is not "1940s style". Don't take this as defending their offense or trying to call it good bc it wasn't but 1940s style is not the way to describe it

offensive line and WRs. OSU lost most of their starting line and two pretty big WR targets. That's enough to make a QB look good, and then bad.

The Tom Herman effect can't be overstated. He made him in 2014. He had a young OL and all new WRs/TEs this year, but he's a 4th year guy. He's supposed to be relied on to elevate these guys. His accuracy took a hit, but more importantly, he forgot that he's allowed to throw the ball away when he's being pressured. It was an all-around team fuck-up in the CFP, but Barrett has undoubtedly taken a step back as a QB, even from last year.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Having a badass offensive line (and Elliot) in 2014 made Barrett look better than he is. Having an ass offensive line (and no Elliot) in 2016 made Barret look worse than he is. I think the truth lies somewhere in between.

I wouldn't discredit the coaching that's been mentioned either.
