He could be a possibility as he was hot for a couple of years. It seems the prospects that were thought highly of and made a difference are/were kept on the team in Gallo, Maz and to everyone's chagrin Odor. The others for the most part faded but that is just how it works much of the time with prospects. Those years that Juan Gone, Pudge, Greer and guys like that who came up there was an excitement about those guys once they arrived and they panned out. That was a special time.
When your farm is depleted then your best prospects can be overrated.

I can see some of our OF prospects now as having a high chance of being overrated. There are other guys who seem to be closer to a sure thing. Note, I said closer- I am certainly not calling them sure things.

With Gallo before and now with Huff, Crouse and Winn, I see guys who I haven't had as much anticipation about since Derek, Feliz, and Elvis.

I very well might add a few to that list in a few months - guys like Acosta, Vanasco, Henriquez, and maybe Jung.

Again my hope is once we are in the new stadium the current ownership takes the money and runs. I have no issues as well with Woody at this point in time.
If Woody has the last say so on who plays 2B then I have an issue with him. If not then I do not have an issue either.

He has to be caught between a rock and a hard place on that issue.

There were many on this board who were high on Gallo and Alfaro along with Williams and Brinson which I can see why they were. I know Andrus and Feliz came thru the Tex trade with the Braves. But I do agree in not depleting the system as that was not wise but you do need to use it to bring in proven veterans from time to time. I think you and I talked about this before and agreed that with prospects you just don't know what you get when they get to the MLB level and there are so many intangibles besides athletic ability.

I was looking forward to Brinson, Mazara, and Williams. They may make it yet, but they have disappointed to varying degrees. After a run of guys like Young, Bkalock, Kinsler and even back to Palmer, it was kind of unusual to see those guys disappoint. I probably shouldn't put Mazara in that group yet though.

When we have a chance at a Cliff Lee, I will be happy to use some prospects as trade currency. That is especially so when the headliner in the trade is somone I feel is overrated like Smoak. We are a long ways from the level that that 2910 team was that July though.

There is a story here that needs to be told. This has been going on to long thinking the best player is starting. If Woody is not the culprit then he deserves to be protected by the guilty party with a explanation to everyone.

Carl Edwards.

Not too sure about him he's stunk the last couple of years and would probably have been traded, but yes he would have been productive for a couple of years.

None of the prospects we have traded have gone on to be difference makers..

Usually you're happy if they become productive members of the team, difference makers/superstars aren't that common and aren't that expected to happen. The ones we've been talking about would be productive members of the team.

Deep down.......I really don’t think woody is that stupid. He’s from the freaking dodgers organization. He must know baseball pretty well.

I think Bannister viewed odor as his own personal “ banty rooster”. He liked the underdog stories. He likes watching the little guy take out the big guy with no fear. Banny loved odor and I bet odor was his favorite. We never really saw him cut odor’s playing time or threaten to demote him.

last year, I think the front office was driving the bus. They made some very terrible decisions. I remember when JD was trying to “ put out the fire” with Calhoun by telling him “ he’s for sure an everyday big leaguer” while he was sending him back down to the minors.

meanwhile odor and condor were way underperforming and were pretty much automatic strike outs at the time.

I guess it’s possible that woody is a “yes man” and the front office is making the calls. If that is the case, we need a new front office.

So who should the Rangers trade for?
Jon Daniels did state “I would think that if we do make any significant acquisition, a trade is more likely than a free agent,” Daniels said.
And he feels that way because …
“Just the discussions we’ve had make me feel that way,” Daniels said.

Trey Mancini, Josh Bell, Kris Bryant, Nolan Arrenado?
or someone who isn’t talked about at all? Like
Jon Berti, Garrett Cooper-Marlins
Whit Merrifield-Royals
Nick Senzel-Reds
Marwin González-Twins
Aaron Hicks-Yankees
Jose Martinez, Hunter Renfroe- Rays
Ian Happ-Cubs

Who do y’all think the “trade” could be?

Wilmer Flores would be a good pick up.
Career .813 OPS vs LHP
I would like the move.. platoon with Guzman at first and could potentially back up Frazier and Andrus..
Would be a lot nicer carrying him than IKF

Marlins- Villar, Dickerson, Aguilar
Tigers- Cron, Schoop, Nova
Pirates
Royals
Orioles
Giants
Rockies
Mariners

Those seem to be the only teams not trying to win next year and or not making many moves..

The other 22 teams seem to be trying to win next year.

It should be a competitive year next year.
Hope the Rangers build a strong enough roster.

At this point , I’m over it.........

I don’t really care what they bring in now. I just want a right handed partner for condor at first. The guy isn’t ready for 150 games. He’s just not. We’re probably not getting another reliever who will make the roster, even tho bringing one in also makes a lot of sense.

They could just sign pillar and let Santana platoon at first base and be a super utility guy.

I like the pitchers we have picked up but other than Rendon I couldn't care less if we picked anyone else up. If the pitching holds up we will be competitive but not a contender at least for another year. Throw Guzman out there and let him sink or swim this year.

so you would’ve been fine with us not signing Frazier and running someone out there who can barely field the position at 3rd?

I don't mind them signing Frazier but once we missed out on Rendon then I really did not care. That really ticked me off. He was the big fish and to me a building block of the future. There are others out there like that but they are not free agents at this point in time.

Agree. You can't build on Frazier so keep the money in the pocket till the building block presents itself.
