Ahhh did not realize that. Smart move by him IMO. An he is the best coach in the B10 at the moment.
Hard to say, his offense, or lack there of, would cause him major troubles in the Big12 but he would definitely be able to land more and better talent than he has available to him in the Big10 where he is at best, the fifth biggest name in the conference. At Texas he would be a 1b with Oklahoma.

I believe Dantonio is a very good coach....but.... here are a couple of problems with Dantonio....

1) He's too loyal with his staff, he reminds me of the late Detroit Lions owner William Clay Ford. He has too much of a friendship/family atmosphere with his staff and is reluctant to make changes/let people go. Example: Dantonio needed to make significant changes to his offensive staff after this season, but he kept everybody, and instead just shuffled them around.

2) He's not a great recruiter.

1) absolutely true and indefensible

2) I’m not sure how much of that is him and how much of that is Michigan State.

Yeah, but his knack for defense would make a difference in a league that lacks it. Plus he would be getting what is considered better talent (as you mentioned) all the while in most seasons playing an easier schedule. I think he would have done well at Texas personally and I’m happy he stayed at MSU.
