Not to change the subject, but are we talking all time or current?

All time, this guy wins.

Obviously it's not whomever coaches Ohio State. Neither Tressel or Meyer were ever worthy of winning coach of the year according to the fuck sticks that vote for such things.

I hate Tressel and Meyer, but to argue their success is just silly. In fairness, many years I would have voted for them ... still hate them however.

To date, I think I’m leaning:

Dantonio (but fading)
Kirk (same)
Harbs ( I think he’ll be fine at UM)
Fitz
Franklin ( better recruiter than coach but...)
Frost (with a bullet, I think he will win big at NU but, jury is till out)
Paul C (solid but not spectacular)
Brohm (love how he is selling what he has to offer)
PJ (stepped into a bad situation, I think he’ll be ok)

Rest

Any jackwagon can win at OSU, PSU or Michigan so their coaches are out

Illinois , Rutgers , Maryland ,Indiana , Minnesota have all sucked for some time so their coaches are out .

Purdue and Nebraska coaches are good but too new

That leaves

Dantonio
Fitzgerald
Chryst
Ferentz

Fitz is great but hasn't had a really truly awesome season ( like a top 10 )

Chryst is great but he's not really been any better than the guys before him

So for me it's probably Dantonio 1 Ferentz 2

He coached in a weak conference at a school in one of the most talent rich states in the country. I think he got lucky that the playoffs weren’t a year earlier because I think Michigan State and Alabama would have beat them.

Auburn should have beat him. Put Dantonio or Fitzgerald at a place like FSU and they have the exact same success if not more.

Dabo, Kirby, Jimbo and Saban.

Dabo and Saban definitely. I would say Kirby is just right there. I wouldn't say Jimbo until he does something at TAMU.

I would put Peterson just under Kirby. Kirby has done more but he has also had more. Peterson at Washington definitely hasn't had a lot less though. There have been a lot of elite coaches that have retired.

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head who I would consider elite right now.

I thought Texas should have nabbed Dantonio when they hired Charlie.

Texas leadership was terrible so it prob wouldn’t have worked but if it had been Good/solid and they HAD hired him... big things in Austin imo.

In two years, I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if it was a tight race with Day, Brohm, and Frost.

Idk if you can really put Kirby over Jimbo now. What has Kirby done that Jimbo hasn’t already?

As of right now, I think they’re on the same level

Dantonio pound for pound does more with less than anyone except maybe Fitzgerald. I agree I thought Texas would make a play for him years ago. Oh well ya live and ya learn.
