What lesson would that be sir?
Choo's contract for one. To much money for another and Choo has control over who we can trade to. Fielder ls another. Major money and no physical. Those are some pretty good lessons to learn.IMO.

Eat a bunch of Choo's contract and trade him but as that ain't happening and I don't see the Rangers paying him 21M to sit on the bench I guess Calhoun either sits on the bench or goes back down to AAA
Possible trades with Maz or Gallo. Spot open with Beltre gone. And stlll a possible trade of Choo under right conditions.

With the 1st 2 you are right but that just leaves holes on the field that would have to be filled. One would be Calhoun but what about the other. Beltre opens a full season spot for Profar. The only possible spot would be to unload Choo and that would open a spot for Calhoun as DH

That is the bigger shame I think. The idea that we have to(in some minds) trade Gallo or Maz would not be there if Choo was gone.

Trades are for value whether it is Choi or Mazara. A lot of decisions when we will compete and who to keep. Choo has obviously underperformed in relation to his contract a lot due to injuries but he is a better hitter in some ways than the rest of the current team.

Mazara could be considered expendable once all these hotshot CFs are ready in 2-4 years. Another option is to slide him to 1B but you sacrifice defense. I hate to lose Mazara. But him and the young guys really need to play better than Choo. ..........Whether they do or not of course Choo in our current situation is he best guy to trade. I just don’t think we should dump him like Josh was

The funny thing about JD is that he either too cheap or offers to much. The same people though have no complaints with Beltre contract.

Do think it will be easy to sign pitchers in a ballpark that is not a blazing oven

I did not say both of them. one OR the other. Hopefully neither but it has been mentioned. Glad JD has the job.

The Beltre contract was a much better one. It was for one year less-6 years while Choo's was for 7 years. The AAV was about $2.5 million less for Beltre. On top of all of that, Beltre was considered a much better player when signed than Choo was when he signed. It certainly didn't take seeing how everything played out to know the Beltre signing was a smart move and the Choo signing was suspect.

That is, trade him for the modern day equivalent to Josh Lindblom and Lisalverto Bonilla.

Somehow the Angels and their GM missed that message but JD got it straight despite public outcry losing out on Cliff Lee and thinking it was a bad signing. There are no sure things but criticism of a move that did not pan out and refusing to give credit to a move that did succeed despite other teams passing on Beltre is out of line.

I am not sure what you are saying, but I give JD all the credit in the world for signing Beltre. I was hoping we would sign him even before we did and I was very supportive of the move when it was made.

I don't care what the Angel's thought.

The Choo signing was a bad move from the start and that is what I pointed out to begin with a few posts up.

This isn't about a move panning out or not panning out. It is about a move being a good one or a bad one. That should be known to fans who follow the team well before the moves have a chance of panning out, that is they should be able to form an opinion well before the move has a chance of panning out or not.

I have seen good moves not plan out before and never criticized because the move was a smart move even though it didn't work out.

What we have with Choo is an overpay and a guy who regressed defensively.

Th original thought was we were lacking a lead off guy who gets on base at an elite level which we did need. All for a supposed pennant run. That did not pan out IMO

Everyone knew it was on overpay. The defense was unknown. And injuries have come back to bite and age has proven to be a factor Some thought he could play some CF which was a mistake. He is definitely not as elite as hitter as he was

but my point which appears to be missed is despite his flaws he is still might be our best hitter and to sit him for Calhoun is bad policy on a team Playing baseball at a younger age I understand this. To make a rebuild work we just need to find a way to move him because if he is here he has earned the right to play.

He is obviously in the way

That was my thought at the beginning of the discussion. I am glad we agree.

We just need to find a way to move him even if that is in a deal similar to the one when we found a way to move Michsel Young. Pay as much of his salary as you have too and get whatever you can. Just get er done.

Trade him for half his salary if possible for pitching prospects and whatever. Sounds easy doesn't it?
