Sure they were. Go back and look at who UF played OOC in the 80s.
When did Florida become Michigan? Don’t look at what we’ve done lately. Look at what we did 30 years ago.

without going through the 13 pages isn’t there a running thing about florida playing very few out of conference opponents outside state of florida in like 20 years?
my thoughts exactly

way more fun to pick on their fear of traveling

The SEC has changed the money and perception, I think.

Seems to be working.

Hell, the SEC has been manipulating schedules since before they expanded.
It's nothing new really.
I live around a bunch of agnut, rusty cow, red fader and land thieve fans. (and several horny toad fans as well) All of 'em bitch and complain about their beloved teams including an FCS team in their season ticket package. Hell, they even complain about having lower level G5 teams like my Miners in their home game package. But they still keep buying season tickets...and still keep bitching. They say it won't change until the BMDs are the ones that complain.

Its unfortunate that the Florida athletic department has fallen on hard times. Thank God for the B1G, BigXii, and pac12s strong leadership to ensure programs can thrive financially under a 9 game conference schedule.

No hard times. Still quite profitable - just in the midst of a capital campaign.

That’s crazy.

Honestly anything’s possible. I just don’t think Mizzou has the greatest chance to keep the record they have if they dropped an OOC game and went to another SEC west opponent. But anything’s possible.

That was the last time UF had the scheduling flexibility needed to schedule those games. I’ve laid it out several times but I’ll be happy to do so as many more times as it takes for you to grasp the basics of scheduling.

When was the last time that the Gators played an OOC game (regular season) out of the state of Florida? Was it in 1991?

"The last time Florida played a non-conference game outside of
the state of Florida, in the regular season, was 1991 (they lost to Syracuse)".

Yes, 1991.

You have four, FOUR, non conference games, and have had it for years now. Teams with 3 non conference games seem to have the ability to schedule 2 non conference P5 opponents. If you don’t want to that’s fine, but don’t sit there and tell us we can either play more conference games (which Florida is against) or you can play more “out of the state games” which Florida has played one of since 1991 and that was at a neutral site location. Florida is doing neither of those things. But go ahead and repeat how Florida was all for 6 conference games back when your player’s parents were still in elementary school.

Cold hard reality is EVERY P5 school has the ability to schedule two P5 OOC teams every year whether they play 9 conference games or 8. They can fill those 3-4 open slots however they please. They CHOOSE not to schedule two P5s. And when they CHOOSE not to, they can rationalize that choice in a million different ways that makes it look like something or someone else is causing them to make that choice. But, it still comes down to the cold hard reality that they flat don't want to schedule two P5s OOC.

From 2011 to 2024, Auburn will play Florida as many times as Florida has played Michigan the last three.

Sorry late to this thread — want to point out: UM has 6 more years of shitting the bed at the end of the season and facing Florida in a bowl game yet to come.

The committee seems to think people want to watch Florida and UM play every year, because the games are so competitive

True, but you rarely see fans stating blatantly false things like Deathroll was posting. Florida is not for expanding the conference schedule now nor are they pushing to play more “out of state” games.

We played Michigan more times in the last 7 seasons than we played South Carolina. We played Clemson more times in the last 3 seasons than we played Vandy in the last decade.

Somehow, I really don’t give a shit. Not really sure why “Texas” and Michigan fans care so much. Seems they should care more about getting their shit pushed in by OU and tOSU annually.

Don’t lump all UM fans in together — I couldn’t care less who plays who. I’m just tired of playing Florida so damn much.

Its not that we're close to the red. Its that football must financially support all the other programs on campus with the exception of men's basketball. In addition, we are in the midst of finally catching up (a decade late) in the facilities arms race. That requires an expenditure of over $200 million. About half of that has been raised by contributions so far but considering a home game generates about $3 mil, why would or should the athletic department turn that down? It makes no sense.

Football does financially support the other programs there is no disputing that. But using that as an excuse is lame as hell for this argument over scheduling. Since the SWC broke up the SEC has the easiest advantage of never getting close to the red as the expenditures their athletic department faces is minimal compared to every other P5 or G5 conferences.

Nope! Michigan in Dallas last year.

Let's go over this again.

7 home games required for budgetary reasons. Occasionally it can be 6 IF its a neutral site game that pays out a lot OR if its a really good/exciting matchup. UF has scheduled miami to two home and home contracts since the 12th game was added for example.

1 Neutral site game...the WLOCP

7 other conference games + fsu. four will be away and four will be home in any given year.

Ergo 8+1=9.

Are we following so far? Good.

There are 3 games left on the schedule and UF needs 3 more home games.

Say! Whaddaya know? Those 3 games need to be home games. Thus no space for home and home contracts with OOC programs other than fsu.

Don't try to tell us "out of state" means anything. It doesn't. The quality of the opponent matters. Neither the selection committee nor the AP poll nor any strength of schedule formula factors "out of state" into the equation. It is simply irrelevant.

There are four programs which play an annual neutral site rivalry game. UF happens to be one of those four.

It also happens to be one of the only ones that plays an in-state OOC opponent. (a good one by the way).

It is definitely the only one that has two in-state OOC opponents who are really good programs.

As for me, I would rather drop fsu and play home and home contracts with out of state opponents....but we all know if that were to happen there would be all sorts of crying and whining that UF doesn't play fsu every year anymore.

its nowhere near as lame as trying to pretend "out of state" means anything at all.

You're right sorry about that. That was the first OOC regular season game that the Gators played out of the state of Florida since 1991. Thanks for the correction.
