This is hopefully how that deal is structured:

Leake straight up for Myers
Segura for some top prospects

I hope the Myers deal isn't real - cause I'm really tired of fielding a team of players who couldn't sniff a 35% OBP if their lives depend on it - and Myerrs can't do it while walking over 10% of his PAs. He'll drop his BA to Zunino levels in Seattle - and that can't be justified at 1st base - we already have Healy to do that.

That’s one of the main things if not the main thing that pisses me off about Dipoto. All we heard from Day 1 was control the zone control the zone. Well like Jack Z his plan immediately goes out the window when he gets guys like Dee Gordon and Ryon Healy who have never heard of a walk.

I'm fully expecting Edwin Diaz to be a Mariner after July 31, 2019, but I'm gonna be mad as hell if he is.

Let's hope to god he stays healthy and dominant because he's our best trade chip mid season. What the hell does a tanking team need in an elite closer?

Gotta have a pitcher to market after Felix is gone. Dumb but you know that conversation was had

This is what every baseball person I have heard has said. You have a closer and a great trade chip, neither of those two individually makes sense to keep in a rebuild let alone when it is one player.

Jerry is an idiot for keeping Diaz and the ownership are idiots for allowing him to do the rebuild. Option A didn’t work for 3 years so let’s give him 3 more years when he intentionally sucks, the 3 is really 6 because you can’t ask a GM to do a rebuild and fire him half way through it.

i realy would not want to trade segura..but to me it does make sense to keep diaz

1 segura
2 smith....................................................L/L
3 haniner..makes sense here
4 cano..................................................L/L

5 cruz..or 2bRR..or??

6 seager/moustakas...is who i really want...L/L
7 healy
8 suzuki is the guy i really want...plus one more
9 gamel.......................................................L/L

it is steal a really good offence if you get moustakas and suzuki....if cano is the dh you need a R/R 2b..to hit 3rd
and move haniger to 5th..

seager does not really fit...moustakes fit's well..as does suzuki

then the bull pen is steal good...and how better to help a new rotation than with a good bull pen

only thing missing............ a rotation...........lololol

the rotation is right now

gonzales
leake
leblanc

and they are shopping leake....prob cuz they want the #4 spot for...prosopects to pitch in...and so they can spend money on a free agent
starter...an ace type...prob not a true one....maybe an anibel sanchez....or..??..whatever

then either trade for an
eickoff...(PHILI)type ..hurt last year not a lot of value...or price

or git a trevor cahill type ..guy...not all that ...pricey

then a guy like phelps could really help...starting at tacoma...then coming on late in the season

Ignoring your thought that it's a good idea to keep a closer in a rebuild, how the hell are you spelling Moustakas right while you can't nail "offense," and you type "steal" instead of "still?"

I completely disagree with how you feel on Paxton. Paxton’s problem is mental, not physical and I doubt he will lose anything that makes him successful until late into his 30’s. He was a power lefty, but he wasn’t really a power pitcher until a few years ago when they tweaked his delivery. He doesn’t have anywhere near the wear and tear that a typical pitcher his age has. All he needs is some voodoo doctor to switch his and Felix’s passion for the sport.

As well as disagree this is the best they could have gotten for him if we had a competent GM and exactly why they should have held onto him and dealt him at the deadline. Is it a gamble, for sure, but at the deadline you sure as hell would’ve gotten more than a package that is centered around a pitcher when the team is supposedly going the analytics route where SP are essentially long relievers.

It is way too early to tell but from all of these rumors it does seem like Jerry gets a prank phone call from another GM and says sure let’s do it and the GM has to put him on hold so he can laugh his ass off.

If Paxton's issues are mental, pitching in NYC isn't going to be very easy on him. You could be right that it may take him a while to lose anything that makes him successful. I'm just pointing out that a dip in velocity for a pitcher who throws an average fastball of 95.4 mph on 63.8% of his throws, could be a concern. And given Paxton's age and injury history, a dip could be possible and that could have a serious impact on his effectiveness.

You are right that holding on to him for the deadline would bring us a better package, especially if he remained healthy. But as you mentioned, it's a serious gamble given Paxton's track record. Imagine how furious we would all be if come the trade deadline, Paxton has been battling injuries and we don't get shit for him.

As always there are a lot of variables at play - which is what makes these things so fun to discuss - and we will not really know if this was a good trade for a few years in all likelihood.

I completely agree with you.

I'm assuming/hoping the plan is to move Diaz at the deadline when a team needs an elite and will be willing to pay more at the trade deadline than they would during the offseason.

Diaz is at the upper echelon of closers obviously, but relief pitchers are always easy to trade for or acquire in free agency when you're competing. If you want to build a winning team, you concern yourself with starters first and when you have a team with a damn you can worry about the bullpen.

If by some miracle in 2021 and the Mariners have a team that looks like it contend, look to build the bullpen then.

I agree. I can't see any reason why you hold on to Diaz. Closers are easy to come by if you need one.

Logically one would figure you wouldn't can a GM half way through a rebuild, but don't forget, this is the Mariner's organization we're talking about. Logical decision is not their forte-they hired Dipoto in the first place. :heh:

I know they aren’t the most well run organization but they are already kind of a laughing stock but them ok’ing a rebuild then firing the GM during it would make the Mariners GM job no one with any semi credibility would take. It would just be dudes no one wants like the Jerry, Jack and Bavasi but probably worse.

Yep, I agree and that's my point- History does repeat itself...with the M's...……..over and over again. No way have we hit the bottom yet. We've been in a free fall for 17 plus years. Go Mariners. :pound:
