I'm just scratching my head as to how you hand Tyler Lockett almost $40m over 3 years and Earl Thomas is still holding out.

Tyler Lockett is worth $12.6m a year and Earl Thomas isn't?
definite head scratcher

This guy has been totally wasted in Seattle. Was wishing he went somewhere else.

Wilson will never learn how to use him right. Not his style.

Would be nice if TL could stay on the field consistently

No that's not really WHY they don't have all those guys, but hey, it fits your narrative.

Avril: injury
Kam: injury
Sherm: injury and age
Bennett: starting to slow down - and yeah, I'd argue he's the one guy that fits your description - too expensive for his likely production.

The big transition money-wise the team has undergone, has been on the O-line. They picked that as the red-headed stepchild of the team in order to pay that D, and now they're not going to do that anymore as Wilson is the teams clear top priority.

Bennet fits the description yet Sherman doesn't? OK

Please go back and look at how many players that have walked for more money since the Hawks won their SB. Many of them walked because there was no $. It was all wrapped up on a handful of players a few of whom you mentioned a couple.

They did IN THAT SAME GAME. Lynch was stuffed behind the LOS.

But in the biggest play on the biggest stage against the 'best coach' in NFL history, who'd lined up his personnel TO STOP Lynch, he was going to not get stuffed again.

Something we actually agree on. I would add Lynch had a 20% success rate during the season IIRC.

How many players walk from the Pats over the years for more money? Good teams replace talent.

But hey start at your conclusion, work backwards (Hawks suck) NEVER gets old.

I've been yammering on this for three plus years now. The last season and a half Lynch wasn't good against stacked fronts. He was murder if he got to the second level, but against widebodies, not so much.

One stat that Pete looks at is "total yards".
Last year TL was coming off a nasty broken leg injured the year before. He still accounted for 1799 total yards. The FO thinks this will be a break out year for him.
Granted, it is a huge contract and I am glad he is extended.

You're finally catching on.

It's amusing how you think throwing out the old start at your conclusion and work backwards is supposed to offend people?

When you're making aa argumentative point that's what you do.

BLUF, followed by the Body, followed by the conclusion that reiterates the BLUF.

I thought you were a writer?

*Locket is a 3x Pro Bowler. Yes, it is as a returner, and no that alone does not justify the contract.
*Baldwin is going into the season injured (albeit minor). That, and with Graham and Richardson gone I think the Seahawks believe Lockett will get a lot more targets this year.

It is a bit more than expected but not outrageously so. Need the contract details on guaranteed money to fully evaluate it.

Paul Richardson had 1 healthy year his entire career in Seattle and you guys think the seahawks should commit 5 years like the redskisn did? heellll noooo, I would extend Tyler Lockett atleast he is a pro bowl kick returner the best in the league. he led the NFl in kick return yards with almost 1,000 yards and he is only 25. you guys are crazy

Meh, they had a choice to make between Lockett and Paul Richardson because you aren't paying Baldwin plus both of them. When there was pretty much no attempt at re-signing Richardson, it was clear who they were picking. Lockett's extension lumped together with the final year of his rookie deal has him making pretty much exactly what Richardson got from the Redskins in terms of AAV. The cap will be nearly $200M when the first year of the extension kicks in. Player salaries go up along with the cap. It's not new.

Yep, he was 1 for 5 that year. Also fumbled it away near the goal line in the prev year NFCC, so he was far from the sure thing most would have you believe. But most people don't care. For them, bad result = bad call, regardless of any facts that may say otherwise.

Richardson is getting the same guaranteed money as Lockett is but with 2 more years tacked on. It's actually a better deal for the Redskins because if Richardson does breakout they have him locked up longer and if he sucks they're out the same money Seattle would be for Lockett.

My criticism of Seattle is the timing of the deal. If you extend a guy like Lockett now who's coming off what people would consider a down year you should be buying low but the deal right now is buying high.

Unless he just has a monster breakout season which nothing up to this point suggests he will you very likely could've offered him this exact deal at the end of the season and he would've taken it. At least that way you could've had a full season to see if his arrow was pointing up or continuing to point down.

Again, with Baldwin nursing an injury all preseason, and Graham and Richardson gone, all indications are that Lockett will get a ton more targets. So he should get the opportunity, it is just a matter if he produces on that.
