If there's one criticism of Tarantino as a director, that misses the mark, it's laziness.
Thats just the feeling I got when I saw the movie. For the most part I like Tarantino movies, this one and Kill Bill 1 just didn't do it for me.

Just took my son to see LEGO Batman Movie yesterday and it was hilarious. Funny and enjoyable even for adults.

Sure, and I'm not quibbling with not liking those movies as much, just with calling his directing 'lazy.'

From DOP to lighting to editing, he puts in the effort, always.

John Wick: 3.5/5 stars. Not bad for a mindless, kill everyone in sight movie. And that's what this movie is. If you think there's anything more pronounced or annunciated in this movie, you're wrong. It's an hour and 41 minutes of Keanu Reeves killing everyone in sight, which is pretty entertaining.

For these type of movies, I like my anti-heroes to have more motive (Liam Neeson in Taken, 4/5 stars); and I like my anti-heroes to be less humanized and talkative (Ryan Gosling in Drive, 4/5 stars). I also like my foreign villain to be more hammy and use a little more over-acting (Gary Oldman in Leon The Professional, 2/5 stars, but not his fault).
The Professional is better than Drive although I think they're in the same ballpark.

When I was a kid, my friend had two cats named after the two robots in that movie. Can't, for the life of me, remember what they were called...

I just watched it and the only one I can remember was Percy. Though if I had to guess the other robots name was Rupbert, though that is probably wrong...

Percy is definitely right. Rupert doesn't sound right, but maybe...

Anyway, super stupid movie. I remember realizing that, even as a 10(??) year old watching it.

I just re-watched Million Dollar Baby (2004). It had a lot of actors who'd become way more popular a decade later:

Michael Colter
Michael Pena
Anthony Mackie
Jay Baruchel
Riki Lindhome (the blond girl in Garfunkel & Oates)

My feeling as well. Fun movie but I would put the Bourne and Jack Reacher movies above them

Completely disagree, but to each their own. Outside of Oldman, I didn't like The Professional much at all. Drive is a borderline masterpiece. It's what first introduced me to Ryan Gosling, who is a great actor. Not to mention, Cranston, Perlman, Mulligan, Brooks, and especially Cranston were all fantastic. A true piece of art, if you ask me.

Drive was very 'by the numbers' for me and Gosling came off a bit creepy which...maybe that was the point. Its a fun movie that doesn't really justify its existence in any way.

The Professional is a lot more subdued and awkward due to the general oversexualization of women in media and the main relationship being between an older foreign guy and a little girl. It definitely stands on its own as a memorable movie although one could argue that V for Vendetta pretty much replaces it.

Gone Baby Gone (Casey Affleck as a private dick)

Unbroken (story about an US Olympian/B24 bombardier captured by the Japanese after floating in a raft for 47 days.) I just finished the book and there it was on TV!

Rear Window: 1.5/5 stars. So-so performance from an otherwise superb actor in James Stewart. Did not have me on the edge of my seat at any point throughout the film, like many critics have commented. At least for one thing, the movie confirmed my suspicions of marriage: it is a terrible thing that should happen to no one. Wife constantly nagging, kids getting in the way; no thanks. Why anyone would consent to such a thing is beyond my imagination.

Heh.

That's funny. Hell I've been divorced TWICE, and I'm not as cynical as you.
