You fell victim to one of the classic blunders.
I don't anticipate any good coming out of this thread. And I'm not trying to cause trouble. I'm also not trying to paint myself into Jay's corner.
But let's play GM and pretend that we can replace Cutler. Another NFL would have to make a trade offer. And you figure that it would have to be an NFL more desperate than the Bears for a QB. (They'd have to be willing to eat Jay's 7-year contract that he just signed this season.) So we can probably eliminate the Packers, Patriots, Colts, Broncos, Seahawks, Falcons, Lions, Chargers, Steelers, etc.
Would we be more content if we get a few draft picks and, say Kaepernick, Hoyer, Dalton, Palmer, or Fitzpatrick? Kaeps could be an interesting add. Maybe.
Maybe a trade won't get us there? So here's a partial list of the free agent QB for 2015:
UFA Matt Moore
UFA Mark Sanchez
UFA Jake Locker
UFA Michael Vick
UFA Matt Hasselbeck
UFA Christian Ponder
UFA Matt Flynn
UFA Blaine Gabbert
UFA Shaun Hill
UFA Jason Campbell
UFA Brian Hoyer
UFA Tarvaris Jackson
UFA Ryan Mallett
UFA Tyrod Taylor
UFA T.J. Yates
UFA Scott Tolzien
UFA Jimmy Clausen
UFA Dan Orlovsky
UFA Colt McCoy
UFA Luke McCown
Hmmm. Nothing jumps out at me here. What about 2015 draft prospects? Here's a list of the top 12 college prospects as of today:
1 Marcus Mariota - Oregon
3 Jameis Winston - Florida State
41 Brett Hundley - UCLA
60 Dak Prescott - Mississippi State
88 Bryce Petty - Baylor
115 Shane Carden - East Carolina
127 Garrett Grayson - Colorado State
153 Cody Fajardo - Nevada
170 Sean Mannion - Oregon State
188 Brandon Bridge - South Alabama
211 Bo Wallace - Ole Miss
238 Jake Waters - Kansas State
This may be a good time to mention that since Jay Cutler was drafted by the Broncos in 2006, there have been 109 QB drafted in the NFL after him. One hundred nine! And in 2014 alone, so far (as of 12/7) a total of 67 different QB have taken an NFL snap this season.
Given the options available, and the uncertainty of future prospects, I just don't see things getting any better if the Bears decide to move on from Jay.
