So then every single player in the league that doesn't win the SB in any given year can be considered a bust.

No. That rule only applies to Peyton Manning. No one else.

I know the Bears had a good defense that year. If Grossman didn't turn the ball over for 4 quarters the Bears would have won the Super Bowl. Meaning Manning wouldn't have a ring.

This is the easiest era to ever play the QB position. Defenses aren't allowed to defend anymore. What's happening to the NFL is sad.

I"m not really happy with some of the rules either vs the defense... I think defenses can still do well though like Seattle proved last year... I get the concussion issues but the league came in starting this season being punks about the no contact emphasis... That shit is taking it to far.. But you can still hit hard and intimidate you just can't aim for the head when it comes to popping guy's.. Kam mastered that art last year because man he was hitting people but doing it cleanly... But I'm with you on keeping the playing field level and not favoring the O so much... defense is fun in football otherwise your just watching guy's playing catch....

Sonny, your are just not getting that I'm just responding to the OP and not Peyton's total work here. He was signed to the Broncos to get them a SB title....nothing less will suffice here. SB or bust for Peyton with the Broncos. I can't post this any more clear than I have for many times now.

I just disagree that he was brought in to WIN a SB, that's just unrealistic expectations even for a great player. They brought him in, IMO, to tilt the table, and he certainly has. I disagree that "nothing less will suffice" if he plays his best ball and still doesn't win a title.

You are right to a degree. They are paying him to do his part in winning the Lombardi. He can only control his part of making sure the team wins. Like I said say he goes out and puts up 42 points for the offense but the defense gives up 43. Is that Manning's fault that the team lost? This happened actually against the Ravens just a couple of years ago where the team put up 35 points but gave up 38. Any time your team puts up 35 points you expect to win almost every single time. Heck when Manning went out of the game with a minute left to play they were up 7 yet ended up losing on a 70 yard bomb. Somehow though that comes back on Manning?

How The F__K do you not have a man posted in the endzone on that play? One of the biggest blunders ever.

My only comment about Manning's legacy is that he and Brady are on equal ground in their need for just one more SB. One more for either vaults them well past the value of a single SB. Kind of like the way a 79 and an 80 on the golf course are way more than a stroke apart. No, Manning wouldn't be a bust. As cdumler points out, he's done his part but the impact of one more upon his legacy is immeasurable.

Last year's SB title would have had Peyton up on a whole other pedestal. It's just one game but that's how it goes. Brady will finally have "won shit" in the last ten years if he could snag another!

Then we just agree to disagree here and leave it that...as well as many others who disagree with me. :suds:. We will see how Peyton can justify his pay with no rings (for the Broncos)

The QB gets all the credit when a team wins a Super Bowl.

Exactly. That's why Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson are all time great QBs and Dan Marino is not.

The SB is not just about one game. Let's say that Chicago was an AFC team that Indy beat in the playoffs, and NE was the NFC team that Indy beat in the SB, would you downplay the accomplishment with "if it wasn't for that shit QB Grossman that Indy beat in the playoffs, Manning wouldn't have gone on to win the SB"?

I think there was a playoff game against the Chargers in which SD beat Indy with Billy Volek as their starting QB. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Sorry I just don't buy all the Manning hype. He's a good QB, but he isn't the great QB the media makes him out to be.

Manning threw a pick 6 in that game and in OT threw a pick that gave the Ravens great field position. Did the D have some let down? Sure. But lets not take away the blunders from Manning that lead to Raven's points.

I'm not saying Manning played perfect in that game. I'm saying putting all the blame on him during a lot of these games as people like to do such as saying his playoff record and how many 1 and dones he has had is pretty much people saying this is all Manning's fault. Yes he has some blame but that is just ignorance at its best completely ignoring the other players on the team and coaches and just what all goes into an NFL game to win.

That was the game when Rivers tore his ACL. Volek took over in the 3rd quarter, perhaps early 4th and led them on the game winning drive.

As for the bust thing, it's BS. Manning could retire now and he's a first ballot unanimous hall of famer. You don't say that about a bust.

You mean the pick 6 that bounced right off of Eric Decker's hands? The one that should have been called a pass interference, but wasn't?

In no way was that Manning's fault.

The pick in OT I can't defend at all. It was an awful throw and awful decision by Manning.

Peyton Manning is the best QB to ever stand behind center. He will never be a bust.
