Just feels like Profar has been jerked around a lot.

He has been but that's what happens when you're loaded in the infield and still bring him up when there isn't a place for him in the big club. Looking back he should have never been called up and should have just stayed in the minors playing every day.

For sure he has. But he's a natural to move to 3rd when the position is no longer ABs.

I'm looking at next season as somewhat like this season. Hopefully without the injuries of course, so we can make informed, long term determinations on who's on the 40 man, and what positions we intend to have them at for our long term future.

AB is in the last year of his contract and depending on what the team sees outta him and how well his body maintains, he may be getting more DH duty than he wants. But perhaps a necessary move.

AB had some leg issues at the beginning of the season but after that he has held up very well.

This is probably the plan. It could be the main reason he got bigger. They might have told him he needs to add some strength.

Or let a potentially better and definitely cheaper talent develop in a rebuilding year.

with the exception of the starting rotation, it doesn't feel like we're going into a rebuilding year, we have a solid pen built around Feliz, Ogando & Schepper and reasonably solid positional players with Beltre, Fielder, Andrus, Choo & Martin with Chirinos, Telis and Odor showing they are capable of performing here. the addition of 2 solid starting pitchers and a OF'er/DH could put us back at or above .500 or we could just do nothing and "re-build". either way works for me although i prefer the 1st

For me, I'm done with counting on guys coming back from extended injuries for following season. It is completely up in the air what we get from Fielder, and I've got a wait and see attitude with Scheppers.

I thought it was interesting that I read recently there is some consideration of not keeping Ogando.

And are you 100% sold on Feliz being solid for next season?

i'm not 100% on any one but i think that all 3 (Feliz, Scheppers & Ogando) should be a lot better than what we saw this season.

but do we just give up and go into a 2+ year "rebuilding" program

let's see we have Beltre at 3rd, Fielder at 1st and Choo, Martin and unless we release him Rios so where do you start him

A lot of folks think it is a foregone conclusion that we will buy out Rios. There is also the possibility of moving Fielder to DH for health reasons.

don't see them going that route at $23M a season they have no choice but to go into the season with him inked in at 1B and look external for a DH

Unless we have several of the younger players play much better than expected I think the rebuilding is upon us. Rebuilding isn't giving up. If done right it is a plan to make sure you succeed for several years in the future. To fail to rebuild when it is time to creates mediocrity for years and years. The team across the street is a good example.

The reason I see for moving him to DH is that if he does continue to have health problems it is easier to replace a DH in the middle of the season than it is a first baseman. You might be right though, they might let the tail wag the dog.

you don't just rebuild by not doing anything external. you use your young players but you also add from the outside. i see several young players on this team like Chirinos and Odor that i think are here to stay and are part of the rebuilding process and a couple of others especially Rua that would be on my 2016 roster but i would look to the FA/trade area to add a couple of starters and a of/dh.

that's my idea of rebuilding

it may happen that way but you could add a player that could serve as a DH and a 1Bman so that you could rotate him and Fielder between the 2 positions maybe keeping Fielder healthy and on the field

He's 34. It's not like he's 38. I would love to have Nelly back for 3 years. He hasn't shown any sign of slowing down this year. We need power in this line-up. I would like Nelly or Gattis.

I don't have problems paying aging players 3 years or less as long as they are as productive as Nellie has been the year prior. I just don't want any more 7 year commitments to guys in their 30s. 3-4 years is tops for me depending on who it is and what their history is. I don't think getting Nellie for 3 years would be a problem. I just don't know if we can afford him and a pitcher the way our budget is.

Why does Fielder have to play the field very much at all? What would be wrong with letting Rua be the primary 1B and let Fielder spell him once a week or so. Even if we put Rua in the OF everyday I would still rather someone other than Fielder play 1B, but that may not be possible. Either way I think Rua should be a starter for us next year.

Your idea requires a budget that is much larger than what JD's budget has looked like the past couple of seasons. That is the kind of budget I wanted a year ago when I suggested they go after McCann, Cruz and/or Napoli, and Abreu. JD said almost a year ago on Norm's show that he could go to the owners and ask to increase the budget if he wanted to, but he didn't see any available free agents worth doing so. He then added that he didn't see any in next year's class worth doing so either. So I think we are stuck with this budget for at least another offseason.

It is just hard to rebuild the way you want to this offseason and the way I wanted to last offseason with JD's budget.

I'm a 100% with ya here. Fielder is a liability with his glove, and although he does not want to DH, tough times call for tough decisions on everyone's part.

If he's healthy, I guess we really have to give him an opportunity to play first. But it wouldn't shock me to see a move made for defensive purposes sometime during the season.
