When did Caldwell say he would like to handle the playcalling? I would guess if Caldwell had said that we wouldn't be discussing this. All I recall him saying was they had not figured that out.

Maybe I misread the article. I just looked to see if I could find the article where I thought I saw that and the only thing I could find is Caldwell stating:

Caldwell said "i'll be involved deeply in" play calling and QBs, but wouldn't say if he'll call plays.

It just seems if he didn't want to handle the play calling, he would have hired someone that has been an OC at the NFL level, instead of his only experience as an OC being at a D-2 college. I could be dead wrong though and Lombardi could be the one calling all the plays.

I'm not sure why some think "experience" means automatic success or "better odds"? Is Caldwell really supposed to pick guys that have experience only, even if he doesn't care for them? I think Caldwell, Mayhew and company understand the situation at hand and will do their best. Everything is all speculation right now and it still would've been for me with any other coach. Becoming coordinator isnt all about experience and such-much of it is football IQ and a job within the system.

We've had Linehan, Cunningham, Jauron, and Martz who were good enough coordinators to land head coaching gigs and none of them did as well with us as they did elsewhere. Hell, we could have kept Cunningham if we just wanted experience.

Most "experienced" coordinators looking for a job this time of year are available because they got fired for poor performance.

TP -- Lombardi only experience as an OC is at a D-2 school and that was quite some time ago. I'm not saying the Lions had prime pickings to bring in as an OC, but if you are going to hand over the offense to a team that is in "win now" mode, as Caldwell said -- It just seems like an extremely odd person to hire, especially if Caldwell isn't going to be doing the play calling.

Why? And again, if not Lombardi, then who? I get that experience is a good thing, but who is available that would be so much better?

I'm all about promoting assistants from great franchises, to hell with experienced coordinators who got fired because they couldn't get it done- I want to find the next great offensive/defensive mind, which won't happen if we hire experienced re-treads...

Can anyone explain why they are talking about installing an offense similar to the one NO runs instead of one like they ran in Indy or they ran in B'More if Caldwell is going to be calling all of the shots. I mean we can dismiss that as Lions' sense but we certainly can't call it common sense. Of course the head coach is going to give his input. I mean I'm sure Schwartz gave his input in-game. But I have to believe that if Caldwell is calling the plays initially, it won't be for long.

The Lions saw, as I'm sure we all did, that the biggest issue they have is #9. They needed a successful QBs coach. They weren't going to get Lombardi over to Detroit by offering him the same position and throwing money at him. Who calls the plays is secondary to getting Stafford in the right mindset.

Besides, how could they possibly suck at it more than Luvmihand and Gym Shorts?

muz, what better time is there to be optimistic than a few days after a new coach is hired? I understand questioning this hire or that hire but I pitty anyone who can't at least be optimistic right now.

Did people magically accept this when I wasn't paying attention?

We acknowledged he played poorly down the stretch. Can you acknowledge that he played well in the beginning of the season?

True. World Record Muskie was caught this summer. Guess where the fisherman's from?

Muskie must mean he's from TN.......It's a little known fact that TN has a Carcinogenic/Jack Daniels purple mutated Muskie......We hold the record, don't believe Google. It's all a lie!

Who are you speaking for? You're far to practical to act as Kool Aid spokesman. (I think I acknowledged he played well at the beginning of the season, at the beginning of the season.)

I'm just the guy putting salt into 40 years (are we at 50 years now) of a mediocre less then mediocre football franchise with the same asshole running it.......There's one common deminator.......Till he and his brood goes and leaves the state and doesn't have the ability to text anyone from Allen Park from Russia or any other country, I'll be a bitter Lions fan.

They've given me no reason to think other wise in 40 years. Some of you guys are younger and I was the same guy through my teens, 20s, 30s and hell up to last year.....No more.......Trust me, it hurts less when you don't expect much and your right on predictions........Think about all the money that you could have made betting against them in the past 40 years.....Who needs wall street......We are slightly better then Cleveland and that makes me want to vomit.....Even as bad as Buffalo was they still went to the SB 4 years in row.......

I'll still watch them but don't expect many Horahh or Yeah! for us post's.......Those days are over, the second we do something good, it comes back and bites us in the ass in spades.

Wow.

You're starting to sound a lot like that Oregon Ducks fan. I forget his screen name.

I'm muzz......Pissed and bitter.......I have lots of friends when the Lions lose and lots of enemies when we win.......It comes with territory.....I accept that.
