FATBASTARD
I've been poished before. In fact, I'm a little poished right now. Believe me when I tell you, you don't want Stafford to be poished.
His frame can handle the munchies for sure.

I have nothing against Jim Caldwell. He is the unfortunate victim of the venomous hatred I have for Millenhew and LewanDUI. I think it's entirely possible they are ranked first and second on the list of dumbest mf'ers working in the NFL, and that includes one helluva list of really fucking stupid players.
Barnum & Bailey have nothing on the clown show in Allen Park, MI. I'm a diehard fan whose addiction to this shitty team isn't something I can rehab away. So I'll be rooting for them and for Jim Caldwell to succeed. But I will NEVER back off of Millenhew and LewanDUI. Fuck both of them. They are incompetent idiots who have done nothing but disgrace the franchise and fail to deliver any results.
I have nobody to blame but myself for not being happy over this hiring. When you have a drunk and a Millen trained jackass leading the way my expectation from the start should have been very low. Somehow I underestimated the true level of their ignorance and stupidity thinking they couldn't possibly mess up finding a coach for what is easily the most talented team of those with openings. I was wrong.
I only felt Lombardi to be a puppet not the other hires
the support staff that he is putting around stafford is what I like. The staff he is hiring are masters at what our weaknesses are ( if that makes any sense). The offensive coordinator was a QB Coach, and a good one at that. And the DC that he hired was a Secondary Coach, and from what i've read, a good one as well.
That's why Terryl Austin can be a good DC pick. If he brings Sheriden from TB as an assistant/LB coach we would actually have some pretty good defensive minds at each level. Austin for the DBs and Sheriden for the LBs alonf with Washburn have all had success in those areas.
Still not a fan of the wide 9. On 3rd and long its fine.
I'm not sure why some think "experience" means automatic success or "better odds"?
I have a problem with the way Caldwell is putting his staff together, or better yet the hires are not what you would expect from the direction Mayhew stated the Lions were going to go.
1. You hire a Head Coach that has prior HC experience. A win now mantra as the Lions have the talent and it's assumed Mayhew's job is on the line.
2. The new Head Coach promptly hires two Coordinators that have never been coordinators in the NFL. I get the Lombardi hire as Caldwell was a OC and can cover that side of the ball. But Austin is expected to carry the load on the defensive side of the ball.
If the Lions were going to win now wouldn't getting some experienced guys as coordinators matter? Thats what Mayhew wanted.
Austin and Lombardi may end up as a good Coordinators but if the Lions can't tolerate growing pains I don't get these hires.
Agree with Gandy. Caldwell said he'd like to handle the play calling on offense. When they hire a guy whose only experience as an OC is at Mercyhurst College. I'm guessing he main responsibility is to take care of Mathew Stafford.
When did Caldwell say he would like to handle the playcalling? I would guess if Caldwell had said that we wouldn't be discussing this. All I recall him saying was they had not figured that out.
I'll take ability over experience any day of the week.

I'm not discounting that Lombardi could be successful as an OC -- my problem with his hiring is -- no one knows what his ability is as an OC, as his only job at the post was at Mercyhurst College.
And if I was hiring someone -- I'd take ability AND experience any day of the week, which Detroit could have easily done when hiring the OC. That is why I think his main responsibility is going to be working with Stafford.
Exactly. He never said that he wanted to call the plays, he just didn't say that he wouldn't be calling the plays when asked by a reporter. People seem to forget that all these quotes and whatnot that we read from coaches have to be taken in context. Caldwell didn't call a press conference to announce that he'd be the play-caller on offense- he answered a question about it when asked. Problem is that when you take away that context and just circulate the quotes people start running with it and pretty soon you wind up with exactly what we have going on here- people giving life to half-true statements that really don't hold water...
