If Asante Samuel jumps 1" higher, this conversation is very different. Being overconfident in claiming there's no way the 07 Pats could be the best team ever seems short-sighted. I'm not even saying they are the best team ever……just that people over react.

In some sense there really is no GOAT team, since it's subjective and even the most informed observers are likely to disagree about which team is in fact the GOAT. At the same time, I don't think that many of those observers would propose that a team that failed to win the SB is a legitimate candidate for GOAT team, despite the great season that the '07 Pats had prior to the SB.

Seriously? So if David tyree DOESNT make a miraculous catch then the 07 pats would be the best team ever? You need to look at the big picture, not one play that season. I would pick them to beat any team you could name, except maybe the 85 bears IMO.

If the refs don't throw a very questionable flag on the Ravens, the Patriots would have lost in the regular season and this conversation is very different.

We can play the if and but game all day, but it doesn't matter. The 07 Pats didn't win the Super Bowl, so they can't be in the discussion of the greatest team of all time.

07 pats was the best team in the history of the league.

No, they weren't.

As I said with the '76 Steelers, to be the best you have to win the ring.

Simply put, you can't be the best ever in your clubs history if you weren't even the best team THAT YEAR.

And, when last I looked, the Giants beat you.

If the Patriots blew out their playoff competition like the 89 Niners did, then an Asante Samuel dropped interception or a David Tyree miracle catch doesn't lose them the game. They left themselves in a position to get beat, and then the Giants made the plays to beat them.

When it mattered most, the Patriots lost. How can you even be in the discussion of greatest team ever if lost the game that mattered most?

Well, you can if your team never won a championship. But otherwise I agree with you; arguing that the 07 Patriots are in the discussion for greatest team ever when the lost the Super Bowl is asinine.

There's a reason the OP, that would be me, didn't ask, "Who's the greatest team of all time".

There's no answer to that.

Pats homers will crow it's their franchise and others will do the same.

They all played under different sets of rules. How many passing records, or how many more championships would the 70's Steelers or 80's 49er's have won playing under the pass friendly rules Brady has enjoyed?

Think about it.

Back when Lynn Swann played it was LEGAL to clothesline a WR. No such thing as 'hitting a defenseless receiver' back then. Hell, even 'roughing the QB' was unheard of. With the defense the Steelers had in the 70's?!!? They could have won 5 or 6 Lombardi's in that era alone.

Same can be said of the 49er's in the 80's.

I can't say the same for the 'Boys of the 90's since their collapse had more to do with Jimmy Johnson leaving than the rules. Had Jimmy stayed, they could have easily won 5. Yeah, they were that good.

Did you know back in the 40's the ball was shaped differently? Go look it up. It was a whole 6 inches rounder in the middle which made passing it a lot harder.

So with all the rule changes over the years there's just no way to nail down the best team of all time for the whole NFL.

Debating it among clubs alone is enough of a debate.

I should've prefaced my opinion by saying, no Super Bowl loser is in consideration. No matter how many games they won. You get beat by a retard, you are no longer in consideration.

I will say, Brady did his job but the defense let him down. I put that loss on the defensive play calling.

No reason to add anything to the whole Pats 07 season as obviously Briz_Almighty will never bring anything of intelligence to this conversation. So I will just state my team. The 98' Broncos season was a thing of beauty. The offense just dominated almost every team they faced. Heck John Elway really didn't have to do a whole lot other than just hand it off to Terrell Davis and just let him pound the ball down the field at will. The guy should own the all-time rushing record for a season but the coaching staff shut him down to the tune of 2 games worth of playing time to save him for the playoffs. The defense stepped up when needed and the passing game boasted one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time with a nice 3-headed attack with Smith, McCaffrey, and Sharpe. Throw in the Broncos kicker Matt Elam tied the all-time record for longest NFL kick (at the time since broken by the Broncos current kicker). Close to half the roster made it to the Pro Bowl that year (before it became a huge popularity contest).

Ok then. Put your best Super Bowl winner against the 07 patriots and they'll still win. I don't see how a guy making a miracle catch negates their abilities. The records are there for anyone to see.

Did he?

Looking at Tom Brady's performance...

He took 5 sacks for 35 yards, went 30 of 48 with only 1 TD, and Eli Manning threw for more yards than him.

When your entire season was built around your ability to put up points, you've got to put up more than just 14 in the SB if you expect to win.

If you want to give credit to anyone, give it to the Giants defense. They were able to get pressure on Brady with only their front 4, leaving 7 to drop into coverage. Brady had nowhere to throw the ball.

Yes, The Giants D EARNED that win.

Brady was being drilled before he even looked up. He was getting hammered. And yet he didn't throw any picks and got his team the lead late. Blaming him for getting sacked makes it sound like you didn't watch the game.

I blame all QB's for getting sacked - including my own. Do you think I'm going to make an exception for yours just because he's Tom Brady?

Your team was built on offense that entire year. How many records did you set? How many games did the Pats run up the score?

When you have a team like that were the offense IS the team, you HAVE to put up more than 14 points.

Remember this quote?

"Yeah, like we're only going to score 17 points". - Tom Brady when told that a member of the Giants had a dream where his team held the Pats to that many.
