You can never have too many knives.
That GIF supports the conclusion that a flag was the right call. I am not sure what you think you are seeing in that GIF?
His arm does not initiate contact with brees neck. brees neck initiated contact with his arm once he is being tackled. Only so much a player can do in that situation. If his arm was up around brees neck I would call it different. But it was around his chest and THATS WHY his neck and head folded like that towards his arm as he was being taken down. If his arm was on his neck/head area it would look nothing like that and his neck wouldn't be able to stretch back like that. It stretches back BECAUSE he isn't hitting him on the neck.... bad call.
Because it shows it was a bad call... all the contact comes to his shoulder and upper chest... as Bree's body gets taken down his neck and head get left behind which causes the contact.... It was a clean hit.
No, it has absolutely nothing to do with it.Umm, it actually had everything to do with it. If Brees was 6-5 that hit wouldn't have been at his throat at all. He only got hit in the neck because his neck is lower.
I think you miss my point anyway. I'm not saying it was the wrong call, I'm saying I think the rule should be changed because that shouldn't be a penalty.
Many others agree with my take.
No, it has absolutely nothing to do with it.
You say 'if' Brees were 6'5", well Broncos, players come in all shapes and sizes... rules like these are the ultimate panarchy of protection. They protect them all, not just the short, the tall, the slow or fast rather all of them
Oh and I just didn't respond to your point of a rule change because we both know that will never happen. So if that's the case, what's the point of discussing your point anyhow?
The NFL will continue to implement and enforce these rules changes that protect the players, especially for the QB, and not the other way around.
Sorry if you don't like it nor agree with the concept as it relates to the history of the game however that's just the way it is.
End of story.
Did you really fucking just write that! It stretches back BECAUSE he isn't hitting him on the neck.... bad call. Thats my opinion, yo can all disagree as much as you want. Many others agree with my take.
If his arm was up around brees neck I would call it different. But it was around his chest
Now go back and look at that GIF and tell me that rules was not violated as it is stated or not.Rule 12, Article 13
In covering the passer position, Referees will be particularly alert to fouls in which defenders... use hands, arms, or other parts of the body to hit the passer forcibly in the head or neck area.
Gentlemen, here is the rule
Now go back take off your homer glasses and look at that GIF and tell me that rules was not violated as it is stated or not.
Many others do not....including the ref that thew the flag and the ump who reviewed it.
That unfortunately is all that matters.
It was probably the right call according to the rules, but I really think it shouldn't be a penalty. You've got to be able to hit the qb somewhere, ESPECIALLY when he still has the ball.
Glad to hear you weren't one of the ones upset with the call in Seattle against Green Bay last year.
I wasn't because I believe that the Packers did not lose the game on that one call
