This is just one fucked up story.

I just think it's circle the wagons time at the Dolphins facility. We know Incognito was a loose cannon and had behavioral issues through out his career. We know his text messages were bordering on psychotic ramblings with racist overtones. He has been filmed having wild ass rants. Martin had to cough up $15,000 grand for a vegas trip he didn't go on and had to play credit card roulette on numerous occasions.

Maybe Martin is having a break from reality but it's just as likely RI team mates understand they are just as wrong for not stopping the issues and the only way out is to make Martin the bad guy?

No matter what it's an ugly situation that can't end well.

It's already been said by players that Martin refused to pay for dinners as a rookie. So he did stand up to them at some point.

I really don't know the answer to that, other than just act however you would normally act. The bonding shouldn't be over the words white folk aren't supposed to say.

It's easy for us to say. We see African Americans as the minority in life and workplace. But when they become the majority then I would assume the whites would have to adapt.

No. I at this point I am not taking the word of any players, because they know how pourus that line is with both out, they will say what they have to say to get the team back together. So do I think a lot of them are lying, Yep! Either way there is no excuse for the things said.

But Martin, of course, has no motivation to lie.

I had heard the opposite. To include the 15 grand for a trip. One of Martin's comments were he was no longer a rookie and would not play credit card roulette anymore.

It's turned into a he said she said situation.

My question is when a group of kids bully a fellow student and that student commit suicide how common is it for that group of students, that did the bullying, to not take responsibility? Or make excuses to justify or mitigate their actions?

At this point I don't think we will get the real story no matter what. Even the NFL has a stake to see this resolved cleanly with little to no dirt being exposed.

And what might that be? Did you read the actual message he received? Sorry only one way to take that.

Being upset about that message (especially if it happened only once) is laughable. Martin is 100% a pussy if everything happened exactly as his side portrayed it. He is also far more likely to be lying than an entire team.

Yea, I suppose, I don't really see how that makes this all ok, or even explicable. Maybe the only way Richie knows how to relate is by acting like a clown and using forbidden words. I would imagine that isn't the norm around the league.

No, but if thats the way he speaks to the whole team, and he is accepted, then it is martin's business to tell incognito not to do it to him... If not why would he change?? Not saying it is right, and i dont know if it is wrong, but it is not as black and white as we make it out to be...

This is not really the truth ... read article below (and I've heard the same from other sources). He didnt HAVE TO do anything ...

Well separating two issues here, yes you have a point, if you don't fit into the culture then saying something is your best option, next option would be to leave.

But separate from Martin, when a team creates an atmosphere that is unprofessional/offensive/toxic, which is undoubtedly true in Miami, then the people who are the drivers of that culture rightly or wrongly open themselves up to being 'thrown under the bus' if something goes wrong because of that culture. Incognito and the vets have no one to blame but themselves.

My question, if Martin's agent went to Ireland, which I find to be a completely rational way to handle a bullying situation, and his response was 'just punch him in the face' then the Miami org is in a lot of trouble.

Great article. That pretty much matches what my interpretation of the situation was. Particularly this:

Martin is on the opposite end of the spectrum, but no more likely than Incognito to return to the NFL if he wants. In going to the media with his problem, Martin broke the code, and it shows that he’s not there for his teammates and he’s not standing up for himself. There might be a team that gives him a chance because he’s a good person, but the players will reject him. They’ll think, If I say one thing he’s going to the press. He’ll never earn the respect of teammates and personnel in the NFL because he didn’t take care of business the right way.

Smart needs to steer clear of mental health evaluation. Stick to those pre-law classes. You speak and simplistic and gross generalizations about a very complex subject.

If Incognito is cleared of all these accusations than I will be the first to say he was railroaded. His behavior and history make me bet against that happening of though. He is a bad person, regardless.

Exactly. If it was someone else than Incognito I might be willing to give the benefit of the doubt, but Riche's history doesn't exactly help his case.

But when he came out, he was very standoffish. That’s why the coaches told the leaders, bring him out of his shell. Figure him out a little bit.

That’s where Incognito ran into a problem. Personally, I know when a guy can’t handle razzing. You can tell that some guys just aren’t built for it.
Incognito doesn’t have that filter. He was the jokester on the team, and he joked with everybody from players to coaches. That voicemail he sent came from a place of humor, but where he really screwed up was using the N-word.

This wouldn't surprise me at all. Richie has no filter, acts like a jackass with impunity, shocked face when he gets called out for being said jackass, and pleads ignorance that he was just joking. Nope, don't feel sorry for him.

Richie sounds like O'bannon from Dazed and Confused; "he's kind of a dick, but a good guy to have blocking for you"

Former Dolphin insists Martin wasn?t bullied, and that coaches knew what was going on | ProFootballTalk

Also, as a counterpoint, a response to the Murtha article, including this passage:

Murtha also disputes the suggestion that Incognito improperly squeezed $15,000 out of Martin to pay for a trip to Las Vegas with no facts, and no proof. Per multiple league and media sources, the trip happened in 2013. Murtha was long gone by then, and yet Murtha uses his first-person account to create the impression that he has conclusive first-hand evidence of what happened.

He doesn’t. Anything he said about it came from someone else. Possibly Incognito.

No it's not laughable but the fact you think it is, is quite laughable.

I am not sold that this culture is only in Miami, maybe Miami went overboard, but i would not be surprised if this is football culture... I tried to start a thread about this, but most people are chicken to have a good discussion about race... I dont know the full story so i dont know anything, but it sounds to me like martin did not handle it the correct way and made a mountain out of an ant hill... Who knows, maybe martin did confront incognito, and incognito still didnt change- and if that is the case then he deserves to get punished severely... But i dont buy punishing incognito if martin just snapped without incognito knowing that martin was mad at him...

I think that's a reasonable suspicion, but I guess that would be my point. Just like hazing isn't a big deal until that one incident that's taken too far. Although I think Miami with a young team, and young players at key spots, was the type of place that Richie Incognito could run wild, and young guys wouldn't necessarily stand up to him even if they did think it was wrong.
