any city would thrive if they were immediately stole..., um, er, given a title contender.

My logic on why OKC doesn't need the NFL can use Seattle as an example. Seattle had three teams at one point, Mariners, Seahawks and the Sonics. Seattle is a great city and has large companies but with any city there is a limited revenue to go around. The Mariners success and the popularity of the NFL (Seahawks) took away dollars from the Sonics. Cities used to be able to afford all three but with skyrocketing salaries across the board, people love winning teams,

For example, I don't know about size and using St. Louis as an example, but if I was a company and had a certain amount of funds to buy skybox's, advertising, spending I'd probably spend a majority of money toward the Cardinals and not as much on the Ram's. That's what I imagine happened in Seattle, little by little companies started investing in the Mariners and Seahawks and paid less and less attention to the Sonics.

20-62 is contending for a title?

Own up closet Sonic fan. Your team sucked, you didn't support it, you lost it.

Truth

Closet Sonic Fans? I'm out in the fuckin open... of course I was a Sonic fan.

20-62 after Clay Clay destroyed the team, the next year the team was 50-32.

I don't believe that is what happened to the Sonics, there is plenty of money in Seattle to support all the sports teams. In short, Stern and Schultz wanted a new arena, our pathetic city gov't treated them like children and said 'no'. So Stern took his ball and went home.

They should just move the Raiders back to LA.

:agree:

If the Raiders were to move, another small market is not the answer, and improving the product before bolting Oakland would seem to be a better plan of attack.

Check your geography. Oklahoma has a larger area than all 6 New England states combined. And an NFL team
there would draw fans from Kansas, Arkansas and parts of Colorado and Missouri as well.

I grew up there so I know most Oklahomans like the NFL more than I do. That makes no difference to me. I would still rather see an NHL team there.

BTW, minor league hockey does draw well there as I know from 1st hand experience.

Figured LA would be the next logical choice for an NFL Franchise.

Call me crazy, but I think we may see an NFL franchise in London before too long.

The logistics would be horrible. The players on that team would basically be living over there for months at a time.

Terrible... Not that big a town. So close to the Dallas market. Send them to Toronto.

Toronto already has the Argonauts in the Canadian League. The city isn't big enough for two football teams, sorry.

No, that was their last year in Seattle. 20-62

First year in OKC. 23-59.

They jumped in attendance from 21st to 11th. An average increase of 5k attendance per game in year one from Seattle to OKC.

Ibaka, Westbrook and Harden didn't join the team till they moved to OKC. You didn't have a contender.

People in Dallas probably wouldn't care too much for that, though. And that's the idea!

Yeah, Jerry Jones will fight an expansion move to OKC. That would be dipping into this pocket. Kansas City would most likely do the same. Lots of Chief fans in Oklahoma. More so than Dallas that the Chiefs have actually hosted a pre-season game in the state.

Attendance had absolutely zero to do with why the team left. The attendance was down because Bennett destroyed the team knowing all along he was moving.

Why anyone would blame the Seattle fans for this is beyond me.

All I'm saying is there was no support for the team.

You have to go back to the 1980s the last time the Sonics averaged 18k+ attendance. When the fans don't support the team, revenue is down and ownership will look for greener pastures. Failure to help build a new arena was the nail in the coffin and if city government is against, its because they know the people don't support it.

Key Arena was 30+ years old.

A blind man could see why they left.

I seriously doubt you would draw any fans from Colorado. That would be a helluva drive, any way you slice it.....
