1) The Washington Redskins is a privately owned franchise and Goodell does not have the power to make Snyder change the name.

2) The Oneida idiot stated if people knew the origins of the name they would want it changed...he needs to check his own facts and ignorance. Because according to Smithsonian Historians the term was started by the Indians in dealings with the "white man."

As an old, tired and proud Redskins fan (who, btw, never thought of the name as anything but a tribute to the Native American) i can read the writing on the wall, this thing is done and its best to just let it go. Its inevitable. My suggestion, in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II fame, rename the team Washington Airmen, and be done with it. Put a red tailed P51 Mustang on the helmet, and call it day. This post is a result of having read this crap for the last year and years before and becoming totally sick of it. Be gone with this particular grievance, Native Americans, good luck with the rest of the problems besetting your people, i truely hope this effort won't turn out to be one that was wasted for your people.

Probably won't be any change unless there are sponsership withdrawals. That hasnt happened so far. When it boils down to it, the biggest motivating force will be about the money.

If a change did come about, I like the suggestion of Redhawks best so far.

Its not bad either. I just like leaving "red" in the name. Translates over really well and doesn't negate the "R" logo that already exists.

Though i still feel the name change is inevitable, its obviously not yet imminent I love the Redskins and i believe the name and all associated with it is meant to honor the Native American not disrespected them, i think any clear thinking fair person would have to acknowledge that as fact. I just feel that this effort is gaining strength and the day will come that a combination of pressure both socially and economically will be too much to resist. With that said, its still HTTR for me now, and most likely even with a new name if that comes to pass. Redhawks is a good name, not sure what it is, but its good, as is Warriors ... another i'd like to throw out there is Thunderbirds ... it retains that Native American thingy, its rooted in a proud military tradition of the 45th ID, and its color compatible. FWIW.
