You are definitely seeing a trend where pitchers are getting better and hitters are getting worse
I think I found it, for the last 8 years K/BB ratio has gone up 8 straight seasons, substantially in the last 4 seasons
I don't know why 8 seasons was chosen as a baseline but...
The league-wide slugging percentage has dropped 36 points over the past eight seasons from .432 to .396.
Then someone else did the research and found out the average fastball Velo over the last 8 seasons as well.
Starters: 90.0 to 91.3
Relievers: 91.3 to 92.5
Interesting correlation at least to me.
It was until I saw that it's not a gradual decline. It goes and and down each year. However it was the lowest it's been in that 8 year span, but that could be a blip if it goes back up next year. That is interesting
Are you just looking at NFL rosters and randomly naming QBs?

I do agree that pitchers are getting "better", but I don't know how to actually prove it.
more players laying off drugs?
So you think the pitchers are better overall, or maybe the hitting is down overall
(yes, I saw the velo thing, but it wasn't a dramatic uptick)
So are you guys in favor of the new culture shift that is being suggested in the MLB? They want to do away with home plate collisions.
Brett Lawrie is against it, but he kind of sounds like a dummy, so I am not too surprised.
19m Sorry guys .. Guess I'm old school I guess .. Leave the game alone .. It's been around forever and ain't goin no where #Annoyed
If you followed his logic, then no black players would have ever been allowed to play, because we should have left the game alone....
That's an average amongst all pitchers. That means a lot more arms are throwing above average fastballs. It's up between relievers and starters. Junk ballers are probably on the way out if arms are "getting stronger."
The great Peter O'Toole passed away today. Lawrence of Arabia.
I wondered how it would be structured, Catchers can't block the plate? If that's the case then if the runner still decides to bulldoze 'em, ejected and a heavy fine
Is there any kind of precedence on how you would write the 'rule', haven't followed it at all
Pitchers are adding to their velo. The average fastball is up over a MPH in that time period. That's going to lead to a decline in offensive production when coupled with a more serious approach by the league to curb PED usage.
No clue. I am worried it will lead to a "judgment call" that could be potentially annoying. Hell, I don't even know how many home plate collisions occur each year in the first place.
This all picked up steam after Buster Posey got hurt. I blame Buster Posey for his injury, because he didn't have the ball and had no reason to be in front of the plate without having the ball.
I am in favor of protecting catchers though, because concussions are a very serious problem, and just because they have shin guards and a mask on they are not a free target. I worry more about foul tips and bats hitting them than I do home plate collisions though. Those things happen more frequently.
He wasn't blocking the plate Rev, Cousins had room to swipe the plate....Cousin's just isn't very good
I agree, it's probably been in talks starting with Posey, but I don't think that's the only reason why...
I didn't say it was the only reason. I said it picked up steam after. Posey shouldn't have been near the plate if he didn't have the ball.
Cousins did what he thought he had to do, because he assumed Posey had the ball. If you stand that close to the plate and blame the guy that runs you over, then you are not too bright. Posey turned back into him to tag him like he had the ball. Will never feel bad for him.
Rev, Cousins wasn't even looking at the plate...he just went right for Posey, because he's not a good player...I certainly don't think it was dirty or he was trying to hurt him.
Do we need to pull the vid? Because I think Posey was actually pulled off the plate and certainly wasn't impeding Cousins
