The Celtics got Garnett because McHale was the T-Wolves GM at the time and he gave him to the C's for nothing!! As for there being other teams in the NBA besides the Lakers, Celtics and Heat....you're right, but no one (including you) talks about them very much!!

Now go back to your cage before Sman finds out that your out without permission!!

You're forgetting that KG had made it clear he wanted OUT of Minnesota. That limited McHale's options considerably. And he got Al Jefferson, 3 other decent players and 2 1st round picks out of the deal. For Jefferson McHale later got Kopsta Koufos, a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick.

Decent return for a player he KNEW he would lose to free agency.

I'm getting carried away? Seriously?!? You really have some serious revisionist history in your post!! First of all, Shaq being traded away was Dr. Buss not Mitch. Dr. Buss made that call because of Shaq's disrespect towards Dr. Buss and the organization as well as his laziness in the off-season!! He also was no longer worth the money that he was demanding!!

Shaq left because Kobe played him behind his back and management sided with Kobe. Its well documented, as is Shaq's reaction when his "not worth the money" won a championship and he asked Kobe how it tasted. Cmon Trojan, everybody knows the story, its well documented. To say he was not worth the money is foolish.

Trojan, you and I can disagree on Ainge. I think he is a good GM. More importantly, as he did in 2006 and 2007, he built up assets to strike and reimage the team. I like the position he has created. he is just so so on his picks, true. If I compared him to Mitch's picks, he looks like a genius. You guys really miss West. That guy built the modern Lakers, and even your latest rings were rooted in Jerry's pick of Kobe.

To be fair......KG had the final say because he had a no movement clause in his contract.

He would have been a FA at the end of the season so whatever McHale could get out of him (after KG agreed to the trade) was a +

True!! In some ways it was like when Shaq was traded to the Lakers!! Point is though, it was a much more lopsided trade than the one that brought Pau to the Lakers!!

Wrong again!! It's not well documented. There is no secret that Shaq and Kobe has their issues, but those were NOT the reasons that Shaq was traded.

Shaq was traded because he was demanding $30 million dollars and he wasn't worth it!! The Lakers were still willing to work with him and try to make a fair deal!!

Dr. Buss had decided to give Kobe the max deal because Kobe was younger and worked relentlessly in the off-season to stay in shape, take care of medical procedures and work on his game!!

Shaq would spend his off-seasons travelling laying around and getting fat!! Then he'd come to training camp and play his way into shape. One season, Shaq knew he needed surgery and intentionally waited until training camp started before having it done. He said: "I got hurt on company time and I'm gonna heal on company time"!!

The final straw came during a pre-season game in which Shaq dunked and then looked directly at Dr. Buss and screamed "You gonna pay me now?"

If Shaq had acted like a professional, Dr. Buss intended to call him and Kobe in to meet with him, worked out their differences and then worked a fair deal with Shaq!!

That is what actually happened!!

As for not being worth the money!! Shaq got one more ring, Kobe got 2!! Even after he left, Shaq acted like a petulant child constantly lobbing insults at Kobe and the Lakers which neither Kobe nor the Lakers ever responded to. Shaq has since apologized to both Kobe and the Lakers.

Shaq was no longer worth the max deal that he wanted!!

The Lakers have since honored Shaq by retiring his jersey and I believe there are plans in place for a statue outside Staples!!

No question that West is missed, but Mitch was responsible for the last 2 titles. West carries some credit because he mentored Mitch!! Jerry West has been gone a lot longer than you apparently think, because Kobe is the only Laker left that West was responsible for bringing in!! The only other player on the last 2 title teams besides Kobe that West was responsible for was Derek Fisher!!

You make Kobe out to be the angel. Kobe pulled his antics as well. Jackson left because of him. Please please stop the madness. They were both fools. Kobe threw Oneal under the bus with the "pay for girls" issue. Ugly ugly stuff. Does Buss make the calls or Mitch ? Danny makes his own calls

As you pointed out!! He hasn't had much in the way of draft picks to work with!! How many great players has Ainge drafted with "all of those picks" he was set up with?

Not a great player and has turned into a serious headcase, but Bynum was drafted by Mitch and played a pretty significant role in a couple of championships!!

No, I don't make Kobe out to be an angel!! You're just bothered because you want Shaq leaving to be all about Kobe and it's not the case!! You tried to act like Shaq left because Kobe drove him out!! It's not my fault that you bought into crap that wasn't based in fact!!

Believe me, I have no great love for Kobe!! I appreciate his talents, drive and the 5 titles that he played a large role in bringing to the Lakers. But not only is he not my favorite Laker all-time (Magic), he isn't even my favorite current Laker (Pau)!!

In the Lakers organization, Dr. Buss allowed his employees to make their own calls, but he still had final say!! He was the Lakers "closer"!! If there were issues with players, he was the one who would ultimately settle the issue!! If there was an issue that was holding up a trade, he was usually the one who sorted it out. This was true even when Jerry West was our GM!!

Here's where even Shaq said DR. Buss traded him because he asked for a 3rd extension 2:18

I guess we'll see how great Danny boy is at drafting. Although you just admitted he has been so-so, you have tremendous confidence in him. The majority of draft picks, or assets as you call him, don't amount to much in the NBA. The Lakers just signed some former lottery picks hoping they'll reach their "potential".

I just looked at who the Lakers drafted before West left and than after he left

Before: a list of top players and HOFs (including Kobe)
W/Mitch: a list of people trying to get a job painting your house

hey, I aknow I am enjoying this, but when you start smashing Danny all I can say is............please calmly review how you got to this point. Someone is to blame

His success at drafting is far below the top GMs, Danny being one of those according to that scale. As the article points out, Mitch made one good deal in his career, the lop sided memphis deal (nearly a decade ago). They point out how little he got for Shaq, and we know how much he gave up for Dwight Rentayear howard).

I still cannot believe they gave it all up and then did not listen to his demands and they did Kobe when he was in that spot 10 years earlier. And the article does not discuss him removing Phil's deal which was also a brilliant move

You really think that list is the de facto top GM list? Riley way down on it? It's one sportswriters subjective take on things.

Mitch did turn Bynum into Howard as well as turning Kwame into Gasol. It wasn't his fault that Jim Buss didn't want Phil. How could Mitch have had much success in the draft anyway considering he has had one lottery pick (Bynum)? Everything else has been low first rounders (if a first rounder at all) and second rounders. The success rate of every GM regarding those types of picks in minimal. That Marc Gasol second round pick was solid. Would you rather have Marc Gasol as your starting center or have him painting your house?

I don't think LeBron goes anywhere if it's not Cleveland. I don't think he wants to be remembered as the guy who switched teams every time the going got tough.

Rule, Mitch turned Bynum (a draft pick, his one real success) into Howard (along with future picks) to then watch it walk away the next year. he turned multiple picks into nothing in the end.

I will let the analysis by experts be a higher sense of logic than our homeristic attitude. I will say I respect all you laker faithfuls.

I hope you know that that respect is returned in kind!! One thing that I think Celtics fans and Lakers fans can all agree on is that the NBA is better when the Lakers and Celtics are relevant!!
