Oh I don't know ... I think the only way it works is for the salary to be going with the player. That's how you keep the bottom feeders from fishing.

The thing is if it is an exchange of players ... all the players involved have to clear waivers. Ugly.

Waiver trade rules are about one of the only really sacrosanct MLB rules that keeps teams from stuffing their rosters for the post season with rentals from teams they do business with a lot.
