Just wanted to get back to the 2004 Shaq trade. One of the biggest reasons I think Shaq wanted out was because he feared that he would have no chance to beat a deep Spurs team down the line. Do any die-hard Lakers fans believe if they had Shaq they would have beaten the Spurs in 2005 or 2007? They didn't make the playoffs in '05 but what's the difference if they made it farther into the playoffs and lost? Getting back to Shaq winning the title in 2006, look at how he didn't have to play as many of the minutes and has Alonzo Mourning behind him and James Posey playing like Robert Horry at PF. If Shaq stayed with Kobe in 2006 and just has scrub forwards it's hard to make a case they could have even made it that year when Spurs had an off year. If Shaq stayed with the Lakers in those years he may have had more years of humiliation at the hands of Popovich's Spurs under his belt. When Spurs have a deep well oiled team almost no one could beat them.

Shaq was pissed for two main reasons. First he demanded that the Lakers retain Phil Jackson as head coach. Second they stated openly that they intended to resign Kobe and was NOT going to retain Phil Jackson as head coach. Shaq demanded a trade because " The Lakers sided with Kobe"
