Some guy on some internet message board once had some knee injury therefore we're all "morons" for thinking it's completely NUTS that Derrick Rose just made $33M and is unwilling to help his team in the playoffs. Other basketball players who've suffered this injury and worse and came back much sooner are sickened. Derrick Rose is a pariah and stands for everything wrong with spoiled, rich athletes with a sense of entitlement and zero loyalty.

You're right. The only correct opinion on a message board is the opinion of the majority. He chose to play through injuries, which probably caused the ACL tear, last year and this year he should come back and play as soon as the doctor thinks he can.

I messed up my knee skating (13 years ago) to the point that every time I move it you can feel cartilage or tendons popping and moving still. When it happened I went to the doctor and he said "whatever pain you can handle you can do". Despite still not being able to walk normal I was skating with in a couple weeks. I mean it wasn't a team sport and I never made a dollar from skating so I guess it is a lot different.

Doctors cleared him 3 months ago...

And he was cleared to play through toe and hip injuries last year and he played through them! It injured his knee. Now, you want him to play even though he doesn't feel like he can?

...It injured his knee....?

I am not sure that can be proven. Unless we can prove that D'antoni killed Kobe, wait can we?

Honestly, he should take his time to come back. He is technically a $33m dollar machine, and you want to protect that machine. He probably should have come back a couple months a go but since he didn't a Bulls playoff series is not the right time.

You couldn't walk right, but were playing at your highest level?

Also, FWIW, I played through injuries even when the doctor told me it would get worse, but wouldn't heal through rest. It's much more difficult, IMO, to come back and play after surgery and not being able to walk at all than it is to play through injuries.

I'm not saying it is proven, but it was rumored that the overcompensation affected the injuries.

No, but I contributed to the skate park vibe :D

I heard that too, and it is probably true.

I did some research on Kobe's injury. The average person's achilles is at like 75% at all times and constantly repairing itself. I do not see how adding on the extra minutes would not cause Kobe in this later date in his career to snap.

Theoretically yeah, but the professional athlete has to get to a much higher level. They have to get back to being a capable professional athlete. Average joes don't have to get back to the level they were before the injury.

This is true... But with their money and access to trainers they can and should

It's obvious no one in here has any medical knowledge. It's honestly extremely humorous to read this thread.

:laugh3:

Even if they did no one should have shit to say. Only Rose knows when he will be ready to play. The guy puts way too much torque on his knees to risk coming back to soon.

That's what I figured. I didn't hurt my knee, but I had surgery on my hip and couldn't walk for about 2-3 months. There are a lot of things that were difficult to do after being cleared because it doesn't feel the same and it affects you mentally.

Which is why he is being a pussy.

I agree. And for the most part they get back to the level they were prior to the injury. Obviously some injuries are worse than others because some athletes, regardless of their work ethic and determination, can't return to form. Flynn and Jay Williams are perfect examples. They didn't lack the work effort, they lacked the physical capabilities of returning to such a high level of play.

Rose will return to basketball, the question is going to be when he returns and when he can play at the highest level again. He is already playing basketball, the next step is going to be playing without fear, without tweaking it, and without hesitating to do things he has been capable of doing in past - hesitation caused because mentally his body doesn't believe it should be moving and behaving the way he wants it to. My guess is he is waiting for things to become natural again, which is a smart decision not just for him, but also the Bulls.

Yep, I'm sure you know what he is dealing with.

This isn't a guy who just got back from Iraq or Afghanistan. I don't care how his knee is effecting him 'mentally.' He is physically able to play and is not, by choice, because he is scared.

Stop being such an apologist.

What does the military have to do with it? This happens to be Roses livelyhood. Why should he rush it because someone disagrees with what he believes is best for him? The only people that should have an issue is the organization he signed a contract with. Evidently they dont so why should anyone else?

The military (specifically PTSD or the like) reference was in response to the 'you have no idea what he is going through' comment. He has an injury tens of thousands of people a year have. He isn't on some other level, and I'm sorry if I don't truly feel his pain...

I don't buy the 'livelihood' argument, because plenty of guys who have been hurt, or even had their careers end, have gotten involved elsewhere within sports even, to make a living. And be real, for a guy who literally is so dumb that he would have been better off not even answering a single question on his SAT, he's made a pretty good living for himself thus far.

I am shocked that the Bulls are ok with this. If this were someone on my team at work, who was deemed fully able to work, yet didn't because they were scared of life happening, there is no way they would continue to get paid.
