Jake is clearly the starter, but Spann-Ford was getting a lot of run with the 1's because he will play a lot on obvious run downs, but their hope is, if he can get more comfortable catching the ball, teams wont be able to just stack a run look against us.

When we went to 7-7 yesterday, Jake was back with the 1's and had a great day. Schotty knows Ferguson is a leader who wont get bent if they give someone else some work early on
Best blocking TE on the team by a mile which is why he won the job last year and no way he doesn't keep it again this year unless a better blocker emerges IMO. Doesn't matter who gets the first snap as it's so driven by the play calling at a position like TE. I suspect the first play of the game will more often than not have two TEs for us on the field. Ferguson is our best receiving TE by a lot and will be out there in those situations. I hope we will be ahead (or at least not blown out) in more games this year, we will run the ball more with Schotty and thus all of the TEs will play a little more and that includes Luepke who played some FB/HB/TE, last year assuming he makes the squad.

Last year Ferguson played about 64% of the snaps in the games he played in and the other 3 (including Luepke) played between 26% and 35%. Assuming those four make the squad (who knows what will happen) I wouldn't be surprised to see Ferguson and Luepke stay about the same as last season and Spann-Ford and Schoonmaker both play more snaps than they did last year. In addition to being an OL coach, OC is also a former TE coach so I'm sure he sees the value there.

Yeah, the kid is 270, he will be a factor in thr run game. This is a big year for Jake, to get paid here or somewhere else

With those two outside WRs we have, I suspect we see some of those seam routes we used to run that McCarthy didn't seem to know were legal

Personally, I think if Lamb and Pickens are out there, Ferguson should feast, and I think, Turpin could have a MAJOR impact....if they will utilize him. I remember Turpin actually being thrown a slant for once and then taking it to the house....then we didn't see that route from him for a month. Head scratcher

more good news before camp starts.
Jay Toia
7th round Fat Boy is said to be looking the part.

AND

Yesterday Dallas brought in two additional Fat Boys along with a few others for a work outs, so I heard yesterday.

Competition can be a very good thing for a Pro sports team.

Im kind of on the Toia bandwagon. He does a decent job when doubled.

The biggest negative I really see is Parsons contract situation.

There are lots of positives though.. .more positives than last year's off-season. Glad McCarthy is gone.

Turp could be devastating in the slot
Even more so with the addition of Pickens. You put Lamb and Pickens outside and teams are going to have to game plan to slow them down..

The thing that can make those three so tough is you can run motion and start with either Lamb or Turpin in the slot and then flip them. It takes a totally different type of corner to cover each guy. Then there's Pickens...

so many more positives this year.
it starts with the coach and how he got this job. It is not about jerry and the last time a cowboy fan could say that was when Parcells was here.

Possibly Jerry was humbled a little due to what happened last season?

The pass rush potential has me excited. They are stacked at DE. If they figured out how to stop the run this would be a good D

That's what pisses me off about Jerry. There are a lot of great things to like about this team, but you hit the nail right on the head..."if we are able to figure out how to stop the run"....They knew that was once again what could hold this team back. If JT turns out to be an NFL run stopper or if Mazi can have a breakout year, then yeah, we would be setting pretty. But if they dont pan out, Jerry and Stephen deserve huge criticism. When your NT is rated the worst starting NT in the game, and all you add is a 7th rounder and hope for a resurgence from Mazi, that's bullcrap

Bingo and embarrassed that his lack of doing anything was one of the biggest reasons this team was a dumpster fire. He and Stephen threw out the injury excuse a hundred times but we all saw how horrible this team was before Dak got hurt. The pass rushers are going to be a lot of fun to watch I think. Most seem to be forgetting about how much was expected of Sam Williams before his injury last year. If they are all as good as they look on paper I don't see any way you don't drop one down to DT from time to time in the nickel to get 3 of them on the field. We will be sending them in Waves

That's right, there is a lot to be excited about, if we can avoid another injury spree like last year, we should have a really competitive team

Every NFL team has holes and especially the teams coming off 7 win seasons, but it's just been our tragic flaw. It was going to be solved by the switch from Marinelli to Quinn and then from Quinn to Zimmer and now Zimmer to Eberflus. No matter how good the coaching, it always requires players as Jimmy showed when he left Dallas for Miami. I still think if this team is serious about trying to win this year they will bring in another NT in late August. It's just too obvious and too easy to not do and not some castoff camp body.

In a perfect world Mazi or Toia or Rogers or someone else steps up. There is plenty of reason to think it is possible. But there is a difference between something being possible and betting your season on it. This front office continues to operate like the 13 year old fan who thinks every player will blossom because they put a star on their helmet. Season after season has ended for the same reason. Don't stop the run and don't advance when the games matter most. It's like the difference between understanding real football and fantasy football.

The best about all this remains the history of the posters posts. It is clear who knows football.

Jeez Mary you just can't stop trying to get me to pay attention to you, like a little girl with a crush on someone. How sad are you :L It's so obvious how it hurts your feelings that I ignore you and you want to pretend everything I write is about you. I bet you stay up at night thinking about it and running to the computer hoping I interact with you.

As Jimmy said the whiny little cvnt field is over there...or was it asthma field...I always forget...
