Strange for a rookie especially since he was a 1st rounder. Not a great start but at this point I wouldn’t put too much into it

Yeah, I file this under - not really a big deal. Yes, you'd love to have him out there, but I do get it. As long as they can get the contract finalized sooner than later, this really shouldn't be an issue.

I thought Rookie contracts were pretty much set based on where you are drafted. What exactly is there to negotiate?

There is general slotting, but still plenty of room to negotiate, and it's usually just QB's picked high who often try to hold out for more money than people picked above them because they think they're worth more.

Yep. Stewart said, Bengals offered him under last year's slot, and that is a reason why he wasn't willing to participate even with the injury waiver. I get it. Both sides want to get something fair (in their minds) but sometimes it takes a few weeks to hammer it out, even with the slotting system.

As long as this doesn't become a long-term issue, I'd say this isn't really a big deal.

The big issue is an organization that is offering money lower than last year’s slot.
