I am not crazy about him either. I think that particular spot calls for a long man who can be sent back and forth to the minors at times. There aren't too many guys to choose from with those qualifications. I would rather trade for someone who could handle that role, but I don't expect the Rangers to do that. I certainly don't want to take a young starter like Leiter, Teodo or Santos and put them in a role like that.

I guess it is possible that Garabito could be better this year. Even though he is 29 years old, last year when he came up was his major league debut.

I am not quite as down on Leody as you are, but I am glad he isn't a regular here any longer. I think they will trade him, but I believe that will most likely not happen before the latter stages of spring training. I think they want to be sure they stay healthy before trading him.

Jeff Wilson thinks Ahlstrom has a decent chance of making the team.

deGrom is expected to throw a live bullpen session this weekend (exact day is still TBD) and will probably throw a few of those before he sees game action.

So, if I had to speculate/estimate, maybe he pitches in a game by second week of March.

Jack Leiter pitched a 1-2-3 second inning of work. He picked up his third strikeout. Each has come on his changeup, which has ran 92-93 mph, a full three mph faster than he threw it last year.
