That's exactly the question they have to answer and why there's related significance in the two draftees. When healthy Ricky Pearsall warrants his first round selection (31st) and Cowing is a smaller (5' 8") speedster (4.35/40). More important, both are 23 years old and cheap against the cap... a cap that will take an even bigger hit when they have to pay Purdy top QB money in 2025.
I liked Cowing coming out. Logan loved Pearsall. Just have to wait and see if Aiyuk reports or not. I'm sure he will.

If I'm San Francisco I'm asking myself this.

Is winning another Superbowl worth losing Aiyuk for a 3rd?

Additionally, how much compensation is enough to significantly diminish my Superbowl chances this year with the Purdy bill on its way to the table?
110% worth it for them. Flags fly forever. They are in that position. We aren’t in a position to spend assets to acquire a player, and then hand them a long-term contract. We should be acquiring as much talent as possible, and that includes using our draft picks on entry-level contracts, and using cap space to bring in FA talent once a new culture is established.

I'd be shocked if Kyle buckled and traded him.

Where's our regular poster from the 49ers forum?
Honestly, i don't think Ayuik wants to leave, he just wants the money, but i had no idea they were that much over the cap in 2025

Bottom line is this offense under a rookie QB needs weapons/options.

Texans offensive options: Joe Mixon, Stefan Diggs, Dalton Schultz, Nico Collins, Tank Dell

WASH offensive options: Eckler, McClaurin, Ertz, Dotson, Sinnot, McCaffery

It would appear we lack a true 1-2 WR punch at the moment.

Diggs , Mixon weren’t on last years team .could it be they assessed what they had and added players to fill needs ? And could those needs be different then The previous staff had ? What if they decided not to assess collins and bell ? They would have spent more money and lost draft resources unnecessarily.

Let’s assess what we have then take the next steps

Dotson could very well be that #2, he was drafted with that in mind and under Scott Turner, was trending in that direction. Everyone regressed with Bienemy last year. Give him a third season with a legit offensive coordinator, and see how he and McCaffrey do.

It is entirely possible we may not even need Aiyuk, or a WR of that caliber.

Eh, Newton was probably drafted as a surprise BPA (similar to Allen and Sweat when they were drafted) knowing that Allen and Payne have at least one more year together. Mathis also has to show something, and he’ll get that chance early on in a rotation. If he is hurt or ineffective again, that’s one more player who gets churned for next year.

better to have it and not need it.
we are 4 deep at the position without him . we are better with him i will grant you that , but no need to sign a DT unless we have more injuries there . just because i think he wont be there this season doesnt make it true

At some point, perhaps with some therapeutic intervention, moving away from resigned hopefulness has to become a thing around these parts, especially when pitted against considered reality. Here's what I mean...

Tell me, which one of these groups you'd rather have in real-time with winning games as your stated goal.

Higgins/Aiyuk, McLaurin, and Dotson (Known, Known, and hopeful)

VS.

McLaurin, Dotson, and McCaffrey (Known, Hopeful, hopeful)

We aren’t winning anything this year. Evaluate those players with potential, and having them for a couple seasons on rookie contracts still, is the smart play. You don’t throw draft picks and a huge cash offer to Aiyuk right now. If the hopeful guys don’t pan out, then you can throw the contract at a free agent when winning games are the stated goal. There is no need to do that this year, and spend both the cap and high draft picks, to bring in a receiver.

Evaluate WR this year, make a move next year if they think they need it.

So your answer to the question is...???
