I'm good with the money, but not the years. This is another contract that makes it easy to fire him in 2 years. The players, fans, media, etc. need to know that the coach is going to be there a while and have time to establish a culture.

This just says they'll be fine with firing him in 2 years. Just like every other coach since Phil.

I get what you are saying

But he is an unknown. He might suck.

Hard to give more than 4 years to a rookie coach.

They will give him every opportunity to succeed. They need him to.

I was thinking the same thing. Redick and his agent probably wanted 6 years like Hurley, that is probably why it took so long. After meeting over last weekend a deal should have been struck by Monday or Tuesday but they prolly haggled a little bit.

And they keep hiring unknowns. Sooner or later you have to commit to a coach. If they have to keep a guy who sucks for an extra year or 2, maybe they'll learn to be smarter about who they hire.

They need to surround him with some veteran assistants if they want this to have a shot at working, even though I have my doubts.....more so than when we hired Ham. He had assistant coaching exp and I did not like that hire and was proven right.

I know.

Tough to do with an aging LeBron and AD.

This one is different though.

The LeBron window is closing. There won’t be the same sense of urgency that the Lakers had with Ham 2 years from now.

When Monty got fired yesterday.....they could have pivoted and hired him. He was under consideration before with the Lakers.....

I know you were upset when the Lakers fired Handy.

I thought about this earlier today.

I think pretty decent chance Handy would have wanted to be fired when Ham was. He might of even asked to be.

Just like the HC wanting to pick his own staff, a good assistant wants to be able to pick the head that he works with.

Now that the new coach is in place, perhaps Handy is interested in joining Redick’s staff.

Can’t do that after last year in Detroit and everything Monte is dealing with.

He needs at least a year away from the sidelines.

I get it, that comment was the fan in me talking. Like a good portion of my posts.

Nah, it was too late for that. They had already done that when they pivoted to Dan Hurley. You only get 1 of those.

If they pivoted to Monty and don't get him, they probably lose Redick and other coaches with choices aren't choosing them.
