Zeets with a very Zito-like outing: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 BB, 3 ER. If he can give us 180 innings at that rate, I guess I'd take it.

180 IP, but no more, hopefully. Don't want any danger of that 18MM 2014 option vesting.

God no......I do not want to see Stewart flailing a hundred times by June. Take Fanchez out of the lineup, and 6-7-8-9 could get ugly on the days Posey does not catch (which is looking more and more likely to be closer to 50% of the time vs. any other number).

Anyone else concerned, or is it just me?

I'm concerned as well. A lineup with Posey at 1st or on the bench and Stewey behind the plate brings back bad memories of last year's ineptitude.

I hope they have the balls to find a roster spot for Sanchez.

Unfortunately, I think Chez2/3 goes to AAA. I just see it with this one. Granted, NO ONE saw it coming with Rowand and Tejada (still the highlight of the 2011 season[besides Pablo's resurgence]), but the situations are different this time. The clubhouse actually likes these guys a lot. Rowand sorta forced himself out with certain comments and Tejada admitted after that he was not happy in SF.

Can it happen? Sure, if Franchez and Volgelsong start on the DL, Buress and Chez3 probably both make it, but how long will it last?

Wednesday's lineup:

Sandoval 3B

It'll be interesting to see Manny in RF. Rumor has it Freddy will start at 2b on Friday....

bases loaded, no outs, Panda/Buster/Belt coming up....

No fucking runs. To be fair, two balls hit on the screws by Panda and Buster, but still.

Damn.

Damn.

I better not see that sentence during the regular season... for the next decade.

I'm amazed at how many people think Hector Sanchez should start the season with the team. He had *one* great year in lowly *a-ball*, and he sucked once promoted to Fresno. He really needs to show he can hit decent pitching before making the team. (And no, I don't think random ST scrubs qualifies as "decent hitting".)

I'm amazed too. I'm such a dumbass.

To be fair, Whiteside has a lifetime .218 batting avg. Stewart batted .204 last year. Why not give the kid a chance, given the competition?

I guess Baggs is too:

I’ve said it before, but I think Sanchez should break with the club to give the Giants a nice switch-hitting bat off the bench, as well as a third catcher for additional coverage behind Posey – at least for the first week of the season. When Ryan Vogelsong or Freddy Sanchez gets activated, assuming one or both begins on the DL, then you can option Hector back to be the everyday guy and get more experience at Triple-A Fresno.

Why not just make Sanchez the backup catcher? Well, the Giants feel he still has a lot of work to do to improve behind the plate. And he won't be able to do that while sitting on the bench.

I don't think many would be calling for Chez3 if not for Posey's health concerns, or the relatively weak bottom of the order that will present itself when Posey is out of the lineup (or playing first base). I think it's pretty much a universal observation that Chez3 is the Giants best hitting alternative to Posey at catcher right now. Of those that favor Chez3 starting in Fresno, again the universal opinion is that he needs to work on his defensive skills - not is hitting. Consequently your post seems a little off....but not necessarily wrong in a context free environment.
