These people need to keep saying we're missing our big 3. Ellis isn't ever going to lace up for us again and only played what, 11 games? We can't miss something we've never had. Still though, can't say what type of years cam and coots would've had, speculation is a wonderful hindsight

Ellis is just raking in the money for sitting around doing nothing. If you cant play just retire.

Exactly, at least give the organization an opportunity to buy you out and get rid of you off the roster to make some room for someone else. This is just another Fletcher fuck up. Wonder what the Preds had on him lol.

It was only a trade for Phillipe Myers and Nolan Patrick so it wasn't that bad by Fletcher.

13. James van Riemsdyk, Flyers

Previously: 14

The Flyers are going nowhere, meaning JvR’s going somewhere. In the last year of his contract, he just returned to Philly’s lineup and almost immediately put up a four-point game in Arizona. If he continues to produce in the new year, he could move up our board because he’s a guy who gets to the net and knows how to pot goals. He shouldn’t be expensive, either — think a mid- to late-round pick, even though he’s at a point per game in short spurts. If he continues to produce, general manager Chuck Fletcher can perhaps up the ante for a forward who can assist any team’s power play. — Russo, Dec. 15

This signing of this clown to a 5 year 35million contract was the beginning of the downfall of the organization. Thank you Hextall.

Hope he brings more than that. Fletcher will screw it up though.

It says a mid to late round pick which says to me like a 4th or 5th rounder maybe lower. How bad can a player be to not get selected by an expansion team and then getting traded for a 4th or 5th round pick. 7 million a year wasted for 5 straight years.

All about how creative Fletcher can get I think. If he's a lazy shit, they probably don't get a good return. But if he finds a partner where he can retain 50% and take back a salary that someone doesn't want, you could probably get a pretty nice return.

I'd be looking at the Canes, Jets, Wild, Knights, and Rangers. Mostly playoff bound teams, or teams that expect to be in the playoffs, but struggle a bit to score.

Something like JvR 50% retained to the Wild for Jordan Greenway (3M for 2 more seasons after this) plus say a 2nd round pick. They get a little more offensive pop from JvR and the Flyers help their cap situation by taking away a 3M guy that's playing like 13 minutes a night and has been a healthy scratch recently (Jordan Greenway Trade Feels Imminent). In return, the Flyers get a better pick out of it.

That's the type of deal I would look for. Yes they take on salary that they don't necessarily want, but most of us aren't expecting them to compete in that 2 year window anyway. Greenway could rebound a little, he's had some decent years and is still prime-aged. But more importantly, you get a decent lottery ticket in the draft to help the rebuild.

If the Wild management is dumb enough to give us a 2nd rounder and Greenway for JVR i would take that in a minute. Im just not sure we would be able to get that haul even eating 50% of his salary.

I'm far from an expert on the Wild or Greenway. Just seems to me that a guy playing limited minutes and getting healthy scratched (reportedly for attitude problems), but has 2.5 years at 3M left on his deal, would be someone they'd be trying to get rid of. There's a chance the Wild would be in 'pay to get rid of him' mode. I could be wrong though.

My thought process was JvR @ 50% could get a 3rd or 4th rounder. But by taking on that additional salary, the Flyers could eek out a 2nd. Cap space/flexibility is one of the most valuable commodities in the league right now.

And that's just an example. Really I'd be looking for a team that wants JvR and wants to get rid of a 3-5M contract that goes for 1 or 2 more seasons. If they can find that team, I think that will net the Flyers the best return.

Im not an expert either im just going by what i have been reading . From what ive been reading even if we eat 50% of JVRs salary we maybe get a 3rd rounder a bump from a 4th or 5th because we took on salary He is not even listed in the top 15 best trade pieces on most people trade boards.

Lol Some of you want to trade the whole damn team away. That's just not a realistic move, sorry. Sure, trading away expiring contracts makes sense and also anyone making north of $6 million per season for the right price, but that amounts to 5 players at the absolute most, not the whole fucking squad.

If I'm trading away Hayes, Provy or Risto, I'm not just giving them away either. If these guys are worth more to us than anyone else, then so be it.

Again, it's not like we're playing poorly with this group. I think it's fair to say that the 10 game losing streak earlier this season is a total aberration instead of the norm. To scratch and crawl back to 21-21-9 after that is pretty unreal, but let's see what we can do here in the next 11 games before the trade deadline or before we start ripping this team to shreds.
