Yep.

That sounds about right.

The numbers were not a debate between @trojanfan12 and I.

It was me and @DJ.

He said the La!ers would have 50.....AGAIN.

...and we all know that is false.
the funniest part of that 50 number is that even if it just a 2 man team of LeBron and Davis they dont have 50M.....its literally impossible...lol.

I agree but let's say they use the entire clock and don't score. 5 to 6 seconds is more than enough to get a bucket down 2. Shit they did it on the following possession when grant scored easily with lebron guarding him

Maybe. But generally speaking, you burn clock in that situation.

Plus, you have to look at the team doing it.

If that's the Warriors and just about anyone on that team with the ball...then maybe that shot is ok.

But this was the Lakers, and it was the worst shooter on a team that can't shoot.

As a Lakers fan, I feel more confident with them playing 10 seconds of defense to secure a win than on offense with a full 24 on the clock.

......and here we go....lol
my boy Cedi already has 8 in the first qtr.

def. could just be fluky--- but the guy is only 27 which I think is just about the prime of a guys career......maybe he gets consistent and is a "guy" for them.

the salary cap is $134 million next year

1. LeBon: 47M
2. Davis: 41M
3. Damian Jones 2.5M (player option)
4. Max Christie- 1.7M

those are the only guaranteed contracts on the Lakers. If they want to get rid of Jones or Christie they can easily stretch them or deal them and not have an issue and open up almost all their combined 4.5M or so--- or at least 3M of it.

you also have cap holds for some of the young cheap guys that they will likely keep--- i.e. Scottie Pippen Jr., Austin Reeves, Matt Ryan---- you have to fill out your roster- so between minimum roster cap holds- and some of the young guys- lets just say 12M? Does that seem reasonable for about 6 or so young cheap guys?

So lets operate as if its JUST LeBron and Davis plus a smattering of young cheap guys.

Davis 41 + LeBron 47 + some young cheap nobodies- 12M = 100 million.

34M in cap space seems about right. Pretty close to what @trojanfan12 said in the first place. Maybe a little more- maybe a little less. High end- $40, low end- $30.

Yeah, I think I said $35-40ish million.

Westbrook was going 2-1 for which is probably the right play- its why he did not "run down the clock". It is certainly at the very least debatable.

2 for 1 would be the right play of they were behind. They weren't.

And Russ shooting an 18 footer is never the right play. Unless he has a clear path to the basket, he shouldn't be shooting in that situation...and even that is questionable considering his layups have been an adventure lately as well. lol

Yeah, I have tried to look on the Brightside of things with him.

He is really trying on defense.

But, I couldn't defend that shit....lol

I said this the night of the game...

As a Clipper fan, I watch this shit with glee.

But, as a basketball fan, enough.

Yeah, even if I wasn't a Lakers fan that would piss me off just for having to watch it.

while its complex- and can be anywhere from 25% to 35% with raises- of the cap--- generally- a free agent switching teams that is off their rookie extension will generally be eligible for a 30% max contract- which is just over $40 million.

some guys that are scheduled to be free agents:

Harden
Middleton
VanFleet
Irving
Green
Porzingis
Turner
Russell
Barrett (restricted)
Vucevic
Kuzma
Barnes
Love
Hunter (restricted)
Trent Jr.
Wood
Grant
Bogdanovic
Hart
Haichimura
Grant Williams
Seth Curry

that is pretty much the free agent player pool of guys that will command some money

Like nobody should trust your spelling or grammar?

It was based off a reporter I trust a lot more than your homer ass.

lol---- can you quote this reporter?

Are you this reporter? lol......

DJ- I write briefs for the court all the time which are impeccable. If you think that missing punctuation or a spelling error is from a lack of knowledge rather than not caring- you are a crazy person.

analytically it was prob. the right play- but you are correct that you have to take into account the other factors at play.

the Lakers, and most especially RW- being a terrible shooter def. changes the calculus.

Like Mecca said- I do feel bad for him in a way because he is playing hard and they all seem to be putting in real effort on defense- but its just such a weird roster construction. I guarantee you one of the reasons Walker is on the team is because he would accept a 1 yr. deal. They are doing everything in their power to maintain cap space flexibility for next year.

Its why I dont know if they can get a deal done- if they will be willing to take on money that is on the books after this season.

Why do the lakers keep playing Russ is the better question? He shouldn’t even be on the court, especially at the end of the game imo

You're welcome.
its hard for me to believe he wrote that when the math is easy. they are going to have "around" 40 million, but around $50 is literally impossible unless you are very loosely defining the term "around".

That's another reason why I think the Lakers need to split up whatever cap they end up having among 2-3 players that fill roles. There aren't any guys on that list that I'd give a max to and Kyrie is the only one that I'd give $30 or more for.

But there are several I'd give $15-20 for.

Not having a full max may save the Lakers from themselves. lol
