Next year. You can't just sign players over the cap, gotta trade for them?
right- and it takes time

hypothetically- you can trade one guy for one guy- and the cap figure has to be within 20%- so that is one way to raise your team salary.

the most common way is to trade a guy who is expiring for a guy with years left on his deal----- while using Bird Rights to resign your own guys that you have either developed- or traded for.

there are some funky rules about short term contracts where if a guy is traded his "bird rights" do not transfer.

You can’t give in that easy, it’s the internet!!!
Lol

No.

If he says he wasn't talking to me, specifically, I take him at his word.

It's totally plausible I took it wrong because of the timing.

A page before his post, I had just made several Jr. Capologist posts.....lol

But, if it makes you feel better, I do not apologize to @DJ .

LeBron had just missed a 3.

Westbrook's wasn't the only mistake.

But, it was the dagger...lol
I actually dont think it was terrible going 2-1 in that situation.

its just a make or miss league- he had a wide open 18 footer and bricked it. Its hard to tell a "star" not to shoot open shots--- but it seems like they are going to the point where they have to tell him- dude- either attack the rim or pass it.

This isn't a fact. Portland wasn't going to foul. There is no guarantee lakers score on that possession

They didn't necessarily have to score. They needed to burn clock. Russ took that shot with 30 seconds left in the game and 18 on the shot clock. If they run the clock all the way down...even if they miss, they have to play defense (their strength) for about 10ish seconds rather than giving the Blazers a full shot clock to work with.

Still no guarantee they win, but certainly increases their chances a good bit.

In general, you are 100% correct.

But, he needed to read the room.

Dude was 0 for 10.

He was open for a reason.

Id call it disrespectful how teams are guarding him.

But, he keeps missing!

I will say, it wasn't all on him.

The whole team was bad.

You have until next summer to make up with DJ. His wife is throwing us a huge party at their new palace in Vegas.

Okay.

If I had it wrong, I apologize.

I have no issue admitting if I made a mistake.

Apologies.

I definitely should have done a better job clarifying in my initial post and also in responding to your post.

So, apologies right back at ya.

Besides, doesn't love mean never having to say you're sorry? lol

We'll just chalk it up to both of our teams not playing as well as we'd hoped.

I agree but let's say they use the entire clock and don't score. 5 to 6 seconds is more than enough to get a bucket down 2. Shit they did it on the following possession when grant scored easily with lebron guarding him

the salary cap is $134 million next year

1. LeBon: 47M
2. Davis: 41M
3. Damian Jones 2.5M (player option)
4. Max Christie- 1.7M

those are the only guaranteed contracts on the Lakers. If they want to get rid of Jones or Christie they can easily stretch them or deal them and not have an issue and open up almost all their combined 4.5M or so--- or at least 3M of it.

you also have cap holds for some of the young cheap guys that they will likely keep--- i.e. Scottie Pippen Jr., Austin Reeves, Matt Ryan---- you have to fill out your roster- so between minimum roster cap holds- and some of the young guys- lets just say 12M? Does that seem reasonable for about 6 or so young cheap guys?

So lets operate as if its JUST LeBron and Davis plus a smattering of young cheap guys.

Davis 41 + LeBron 47 + some young cheap nobodies- 12M = 100 million.

34M in cap space seems about right. Pretty close to what @trojanfan12 said in the first place. Maybe a little more- maybe a little less. High end- $40, low end- $30.

We are good.

As for basketball, my team is self sabotaging.

That makes it even worse.

Westbrook was going 2-1 for which is probably the right play- its why he did not "run down the clock". It is certainly at the very least debatable.

Yep. No one has anything to brag about in those final seconds. Russ was just the most egregious because it was obvious to even novice hoops fans that it was not the right play.

12 second differential there so if russ isn't dumb and lakers miss a shot much later in the clock than Portland still get the ball with roughly 13-15 seconds left

Yep.

That sounds about right.

The numbers were not a debate between @trojanfan12 and I.

It was me and @DJ.

He said the La!ers would have 50.....AGAIN.

...and we all know that is false.

RW was 4 of 15 vs the Blazers, 0 for 11 vs the Clipps.

Both are awful.

Yeah, I have tried to look on the Brightside of things with him.

He is really trying on defense.

But, I couldn't defend that shit....lol

I said this the night of the game...

As a Clipper fan, I watch this shit with glee.

But, as a basketball fan, enough.
